The best!!!!! I did not use brisket due to someone's suggestion below due to cost. I did use a chuck roast (not as much as the recipe called for but about 4 lbs maybe. I did use more spices than what it called for (I'm from Texas and we love our spices. Other than that, I followed the recipe very closely.
It is just a great great easy easy recipe where the spices all come together to make wonderful tasty chili.
I'm a guy and do not really follow The Food Channel or Barefoot Contessa. I am now sold on her and the show. I love the way they show in detail what she is doing. Thanks for sharing this! It is definitely a keeper!!!

A great recipe even if Food Network has not tested. Great flavor, especially after it sets and is reheated.

Very good - rich flavor. I did cut back on the spices based on other reviews and it still had kick. Only other change I made was cilantro instead of basil. I seem to remember from the show that Devon Fredericks' commented that the original recipe had cilantro. I will certainly make this again!

Oh-so-tasty. I cut hot spices to 1/2 and had slight kick so modify to your taste. A bit soupy, will use less tomatoes next time for thicker consistency. Used black and kidney beans and subed fresh parsley for basil. May add corn next time...and there will be a next time. : Thanks, Ina.

This chili was over the top! The next time I make it I would not put as much heat in it, but it has a fabulous flavor. Way to go Devon!

I have wanted to make this chili since I saw it done on the fnw just a few weeks ago. It's still 'cookin' so I haven't actually tried it as yet. However; the juice is deliscious!
Because I have some 'staples' I believe belong in chili I have added a few things of my own. Other items are waiting for the final test to see if I think they need added. What I have added so far are red onions, finely chopped celery and black beans. What is on-hand if needed is a can of spicey refried beans, a can of tomatoe soup and a t or T of soda if it is still too acidic. I LOVE spicey chili but not bitter chili. I absolutely DID brown 5 lbs. of brisket and it smelled wonderful. I am planning on taking this chili to a business-lunch meeting this week. Hope it serves me well as my own chili is well-loved locally. 'Just wanted to try something new.
