I agree totally with mizjmassie!! This recipe is off! The potato amount is wrong. I only use sweet pickle relish, and I use green, red bell pepper, diced carrots, celery, and a dash of celery seeds. You must add yellow mustard, thicky, heavy mayonaise, onions, & boiled crumbled eggs. The key is to NEVER rinsed your cooked, cubed potatoes.

I think the main problem with this recipe is the amount of potatoes if off. However, I think if you cook maybe 2-3 lbs you may be okay. However, I still think it's too plain. No mustard, no bell pepper or celery or onion (like green. Lastly, dill pickle relish is okay, but too bitter for my pallete. I prefer sweet pickle relish. There are just far more better recipes out there. There is salt in this recipe even though so many reviewers said that there wasn't. I used seasoned salt and doctored this recipe by changing everything.

WOW, about time I saw a place not use onions and such! a real russet potato (notice there is no E, has such great flavor, there need not much else to add especially when this should be a side dish to a main flavored meal.

This recipe is just plain wrong in every aspect, ie ratios, type of potato, amount of dressing etc.

This is a FABULOUS basic recipe which is delish just the way it is.. or can very easily be added to. I make this all the time for big events and have had many ask for containers to bring it home! I usually split it into two. One I keep the recipe just as is.. the second I doctor a bit for those who are more adventurous in their tater salad needs. (hint..hint: crispy fry some bacon and mix it in with a few tablespoons of the bacon fat.. OMG.. what's not to love??

It is a good, simple recipe. I like the fact that you can add just about anything to this base and create your own version. It's not hard to overlook any mistakes in the amount of potatoes, just use your common sense and adjust the ingredients accordingly. Recipes are only guides and obviously are not going to please every palate. Personally, I like the way it tastes, even without the relish.

Someone is trying to give potato salad a bad name. The proportions are absurd. Can you imagine the size of the bowl you would need to crumble or mash 10 pounds of potatoes. Can you imagine the size of the pot you need to boil 10 pounds of potatoes?Even if you should correct the obvious mistake you still would have a very pedestrian potato salad.

But when I make mine I do put salt and pepper and a spicy dijon mustard, just a little. I have to have onions in mine, too. I also put sliced eggs and paprika on top and sometimes when I'm wanting just a little something different, I dice cucumber and put it in. It gives a new little crunch and coolness and is very refreshing on a hot summers day.
