This is by far the best BBQ I have ever had. My parents enjoyed this as well. I served it with Orzo rice with peas and tomatoes and fontina cheese and then the nellys grilled corn salad. This meal was splendid

I've tried several of the Neelys' recipes including their loaded potato soup (oh so good!! and their sweet and spicy cole slaw. I knew this recipe was going to be ROCKING because the other two I've made numerous times and every time I make them - everyone is licking their bowls clean asking for more.
This is hands down THE BEST BARBECUE CHICKEN RECIPE I've ever made. The Neelys know how to cook. There's a reason why most of their recipes are 5 star rated on reviews.

I made this on the grill last night and had marinated over night the evening before. I have to agree with everyone that this chicken was the best! I thought it would be too much paprika and sugar too, but it was perfect. I didn't have half chickens, but had leg quarters and wings. I just cut the grilling time down for the wings. The wings were so good, I might just make a big batch of them next time. It was all so good! I followed another reviewer's suggestion and made the Neeley's honey cornbread muffins as a side and everyone raved about those too!

For Julia who bakes it in the oven - what is your total baking time and do you keep it at 350? BTW - love the Neely's and can't wait to try this. I've given it 5 stars because I'm sure it will be!

Very good bbq sauce, l, too agree with the previous reviewer and I have said it on here before, do not give a recipe less then 5 stars if you are not gonna make it the way it is written, then you cannot give it an honest review, the object of this is not to review your additions and subtractions, the object is to give a review of the original recipe as it is written~~~~~~

Very good if you follow the recipe. I often wonder why people come here and review these recipes, give them low marks, and then go on to explain that they didn't even come close to following the directions! Give me a break folks! If you can't or wont follow directions, please don't bother reviewing.

I've been making this recipe ever since the Neelys first went on the air! It's alot of work but my family loves this! I use bone in chicken breasts and bake it in the oven.

I have been thinking about this recipe ever since I made it. It was delicious! We are foodies and love to cook. I had never cooked half chickens before and that was one of the reasons I chose this recipe at first. Made a full recipe of dressing for 1 chicken and quartered the rub because I did not have that much paprika. Then Halved the BBQ sauce. One addition I made was I added about 1/4 cup strong coffee to the bbq sauce which I think added a fantastic robust flavor. One more note...I would just cut the chicken into 8 pieces next time for better coverage while marinating and for little more speed cooking on the grill. This is now our new BBQ Chicken recipe from here on out. Thank you Neelys! MAKE IT TONIGHT! Reviewer below used bottled bbq sauce which is probably why they got that outcome. NO SHORTCUTS HERE!!!

I did not like this recipe at all! The taste was very bad. I followed the recipe except for the bbq sauce, I used a Sweet Baby Ray's bbq sauce & I used chicken breasts instead of whole chickens. All I tasted was the paprika which was like a grainy taste, just not good.

WOW!!! So good. All I can say is it is so much better on the grill than cooked in the oven. I love love love this recipe. I will be making it on the grill from now on.
