This is almost perfect, but ..... I would sub. a "GOOD" smoked jowl, small cubed, for the meat. I emphasize "GOOD" as in a nice smoke cure to the jowl. And as written, you might want to back off the sugar or molasses a tad. It's too sweet.

I haven't tried this recipe yet, but to tfetner: As I was reading the recipes from the episode, I realized why the instructions were to make so much more seasoning than what you would use for just the baked beans. The seasoning is also called for in the BBQ Chicken recipe as well as the Grilled Corn Salad!! Mystery solved!! :

This is a very good recipe! The only thing that needs tweeking is the BBQ seasoning. I cut it to a 1/3 of the quantities called for and followed the recipe to the letter.
To my taste it had to much of the BBQ seasoning taste (paprika. With that said, they ate it ALL!!!!!

These are pretty good. However, I was pretty annoyed by instructions to create such a large amount of the barbecue seasoning when only 1/3 of a cup is needed. When I make a new recipe, I don't want to make more of a seasoning or sauce than I really need, not knowing if I will ever use it again. By using only 1/6 of the listed ingredients, you will get the 1/3 cup. To make the 1/3 cup of barbecue seasoning, use 1/4 cup paprika, 1/8 cup sugar, and 5/8 tbsp onion powder. This is also a pretty hefty recipe, so cut it in half if making it for your family, or you will have a LOT of leftovers. As far as baked beans go, these are tasty, but I'm still on the lookout for something better.

I received rave reviews for these beans!! I didn't put in as much brown sugar as the beans called for and used ground beef instead of the brisket, but my family loved them!

Fantastic! Made them for a dinner party. Everyone raved about the beans. Made according to the recipe except used bottled BBQ since I didn't have time to make the sauce. Next time I will try making the BBQ sauce as well. Definitely a keeper!

Everyone absolutely loved these beans. I served them at a dinner party and people who said they never eat beans loved them. A few comments on here said they were too sweet, so I only added half the sugar at first. But then I tasted them and decided they could be sweeter so I used the full quantity. It probably depends on your taste but I was making spicy fried chicken so I wanted the beans a little sweeter. Great recipe.

The recipe for the barbecue sauce is the best part of this dish. I will use it over and over- very tasty and it was the easiest barbecue sauce I have ever made from scratch. I really liked the beans, but with the sweetness of the sauce you don't need any more sugar except a little molasses. I used bacon for the meat and navy beans. I will try this again without all the sugar because it's worth a second chance.
