Holy moly!!!! Just finished making 2 batches to go on a huge brisket that goes in the smoker tomorrow night! 1 batch, I pretty much made according to the recipe, with the addition of some chopped garlic.....ridiculously good!!! My 4 year old loves it, too! 2nd batch, I wanted spicy...so, left out the lemon juice, again added garlic and a few tablespoons of pureed chipotles in adobo...OUT OF THIS WORLD GOOD! Thank you, Neely's for giving me a great blueprint recipe to play with! I will NEVER buy bottled BBQ sauce again!

Happy Mothers Day Miss Gina! This sauce was amazing!!!
I had to improvise a bit, I sauted 1/2 shallot and 1 lg clove garlic, minced fine in 1T of each olive oil and butter. Then I followed as written. I did not have enough sugar so I added some aguave syrup, and then I added a mexican type of rub ( I had made this & had in the pantry .
I Hope you don't mind the changes Miss, fantastic, TY!!
A note to Fancyone1; a sauce is so easy to change just add more vinegar, or add whatever until you like the taste!

This sauce is bomb!! I am making this bbq sauce as a thank you gift for some friends of mine right now. I am making close to a gallon so I can have plenty left over for me too.

    Thanks Pat and Gina!

Husband thought it was too "ketchupy", but kids and I loved it. I added (as suggested liquid smoke, shallots, garlic, red wine vinegar as I was out of the cider vinegar. Makes a good amount of sauce which lasted a while! Just made again this morning!

I was out of bbq sauce one day, and looked for a recipe on the website and came across this one. I tried it out and have not bought bbq sauce from a store since. My family likes it a little spicy so I add about a half tablespoon of siracha and a tablespoon of hoisin sauce to the base.

Loved this sauce. I didn't cook it though, just put it on baby back ribs in a crock pot and it turned out wonderful.
