My mom has been making this recipe for 35+ years for her children. She has used different flavors of Jell-O along with different cake mixes. My personal favorite is French Vanilla Cake Mix (baked as directed and cherry Jell-O. Top with fresh whipped cream (1 pint cream,1/4 Cup sugar, 1/2 tsp. vanilla ...whipped till firm peaks form. Fresh cherries never hurts either. If you don't have any, don't worry, the family will love it anyway.

I made this cake for my graduation luncheon. I love strawberry shortcake so after I read the recipe and some reviews I was hooked. Used the diabetic reviewer's version and no one could tell the difference. However, I had a difficult time with the jello because it got too firm and didn't pour like the Neelys did. Presentation wise, I ended up with a mess on top of my cake, BUT it was a very tasty mess! Will try this cake again because the flavor is outstanding. It might work better with a spring form pan.

AWESOME!!!!! I baked it for thanksgiving everyone in my o-so large family loved it. I had to make another batch the very next day! ITS JUST THAT GREAT!

... I've earned myself a new job in the family. My mom, who typically bakes all the birthday cakes, just turned 70. I made this for her birthday, and she declared she's officially retiring from birthday cakes and it's my job from now on. Maybe this cake was a little too good!

My family and I love this recipe the only problem I have is making the whip cream it don't do right..So next time I am going to try the store bought whip cream..Thanks PAT AND GINA!!
