I looove this cake and it's one of my most requested at work for holidays and birthdays. The only change I made was the cream. I just use Cool Whip mixed with a teaspoon of vanilla extract. It's easier and it tastes really good. I also only put sugar on the strawberries.

I always read the reviews before I make a recipe and usually the reviews are spot on. This cake was okay, but I doubt I'll ever make it again. I followed the directions pretty exactly and the cake looks nothing like the picture. Next time I'll stick with traditional strawberry shortcake.

I made this cake today and it was absolutely delicious. So easy to make and my entire family loved it. I made it exactly as written however, I used Cool Whip instead. It is just refreshing and light. Makes you want to get a second helping...we all did! Thank you to The Neelys for sharing their recipe with us.

I followed other reviewer's suggestions and doubled the whipped cream recipe, and it came out perfect! Absolutely delicious and very easy to make. Thank you Pat and Gina!

Made this with french vanilla cake mix and my husband loved it. I am not much of a sweet eater, but ate a piece of it and loved it. Always love the Neeleys recipes. Keep them coming

This cake is really good. I don't bake but this is one cake that i don't mind pulling out the mixer for. :

I seem to have gone the opposite of few, and just love to bake. I made a white cake from scratch ~ and I used Amaretto instead of cognac ~ I also used the Amaretto w/my whipped cream ~ If don't have time to make my baked goods from scratch I usually don't make them ~ however boxed cakes are getting better and better ~ I also turned these into yummy cupcakes ~ Love this "strawberry thang" ~ Love Gina and Pat too ~ happy baking ~

great cake. used rasberry laquer instead of cognac. i actually added the strawberries to the jello and chilled the whole thing before i put on the cake, since it didn't seem to make much sense to do after you put the berries on. and forget swirling it all together. it really is best if it sets over night. i also used a white cake, but used both egg yolks and whites to richen it up. I added a couple of tablespoons of lemon zest and juice of one lemon to the cake as well and a half teaspoon of almond exract; and put some fresh lemon juice in with the berry/jello mixture. .

Next time i do this i'm not going to bother with taking the cake out of the pan, but rather put in a spring form pan and pour it all on top, then just take off the outside ring after it sets overnight. one less step and helps keep everything from spilling over the edges. Cool whip is the way to go since its stable and won't get watery after a few hours as cream can do. Dip whole berries in some of the reserved jello mixture and put them pointed side up around the outside edge of the cake, with some mint in the middle, and it looks like a pro

Otherwise, great 4th of July cake. For sure.....

This has been my birthday cake for two years in a row... I dream about this cake. It's fantastic, almost custardlike. It's easy and fun and definitely impressive. It's also refreshing because of it's fruitiness.

I enjoy Pat and Gina, my boyfriend's mom and I love making their recipes and watching them cook. They're so cute.

    Thanks!
