This has been my birthday cake for two years in a row... I dream about this cake. It's fantastic, almost custardlike. It's easy and fun and definitely impressive. It's also refreshing because of it's fruitiness.

I enjoy Pat and Gina, my boyfriend's mom and I love making their recipes and watching them cook. They're so cute.

    Thanks!

I made this for Bunco and everyone loved it. Several wanted the recipe. I did make a few modifications. I used white cake mix since it was on hand. Also, I didn't have cognac so I used amaretto on the berries and also in my whipped cream in place of the vanilla. I used the 2 cups of whipping cream mentioned in the video and by several reviewers and it was the perfect amount. One thing I will do differently the next time is make the jello farther in advance. It was in the fridge for about one hour and hadn't done much more than cool to room temp. So I placed it in the freezer for about 15 minutes so that it would start to thicken a little more. Otherwise this was easy and well received at Bunco.

First, dont let the inactive prep time discourage you from making this! I made this in a hurry, nervous about its outcome seeing as how the cake was just finished cooking and i hadn't started the jello and i didnt have the necessary amount of time to finish it and keep the cake from being mushy. I put both the jello and the cake in the freezer (seperate and it cooled RIDICULOUSLY QUICK!!! i poured the jello over the cake, letting it seep through the cake topped it with the macerated strawberries and whipped cream. I put it in the freezer for about an hour and it was PERFECT!!! The adults loved it more than the kids!!! Super easy!!! A must make!!! Perfect with my substitutions!!!

    * I substituted the strawberry cake mix for yellow cake mix
    * I substituted the homemade whipped cream for cool whip

This cake was not very good. Very mushy. It would've tasted better if I had just left the cake alone and if I wanted to, just add jello and whipped cream on top of the cake instead of following the recipe. I was really looking forward to this too after reading all the reviews. I had to throw the whole cake away because nobody would eat it.

Had to try it, the recipe is similar to a lemonade cake recipe that I use but instead of jello, I use frozen lemonade concentrate mixed with powdered sugar. All the Neely's recipes I've tried are delish! ;0
