    I have been baking a long time but have never seen a yeast cookie recipe before. It was WONDERFUL. Be aware not to overmix, per Duff's directions. The batter was good enough to eat on it's own-not yeasty at all. The only problem I had was with the ganache. The recipe made way too much, the dark was too thick and the white was too thin. A glaze may have worked better. I would make the cookies again, however, and the family enjoyed them. Thanks Duff!

    I watched the video, then made these cookies. The cookies themselves are terrific. My batch made 28 perfect cookies. The ganache turned out to be too runny. The dark chocolate eventually thickened after it cooled, but the white chocolate never did firm up enough to spread. Both tasted fabulous, though, and I do not generally even like white chocolate. I will definitely make these cookies again, but not use as much cream in the ganache. There should still be plenty to cover all the cookies, because I had a lot left over. Thanks, Duff, for sharing this recipe. It's a keeper.

    I grew up in Brookly, NY in a Jewish-Italian neighborhood. There were plenty of Jewish bakeries around and all sold the Black and White cookie. They were my favorite. I live in PA now and cannot find a Black and White worthwhile to save my life. I don't know how they make them here, but they are too soft and greasy. I can't wait to make the ones from Duff. I know they will be the real thing.

    These were interesting--no eggs? Yeast? Had to give them a try.
    Watch Duff's videeo so you get the scoop on how to prepare these for baking and make sure you WHIP the sugar and butter for a LONG time. I think that really made the difference here, otherwise the cookies could be really heavy.
    I think I bought the wrong white chocolate, so it didn't thicken up enough to make an icing. I went with just the bittersweet ganache and am blissfully happy :-.
    Oh, and I doubled the lemon extract and added another 1/4 t. vanilla.

    I wish I didn't have to add stars because I haven't tried this yet, but I can't wait to comment on it. When I was a child I ate cookies from my favorite bakery in Chicago, they were huge, cake-like cookies, some iced with chocolate, others iced with vanilla icing. I *loved* those cookies, and didn't know they were called Black and Whites until I grew up. I've been searching for the recipe ever since.
    I do remember the cookie itself having a bland taste, it was more about the cakey texture and size, with the icing giving most of the flavor.

    I've tried the recipes that I've found on the internet (that all call for eggs, but those are more like regular cookies and did not have the same texture as the cookies I remembered. So seeing Duff's recipe, with the addition of yeast and removal of eggs, has really piqued my curiosity. This is the first recipe I've seen that is really different from the others. I have watched the video for the shaping technique, and will probably use a buttercream type of cake frosting just to save time and money, but I will definitely post back with the results after I make these. I'm very excited!

    I made these this am , like others I had way more dough than 20 cookies( 36 using an ice cream scoop. I should have watched the video about you should fatten them you think it would have given you that info. in the directions. Anyway after two batches I did flaten them, it did look better but did not make them taste any better, they are very bland. The ganache was very tastey but I wish I have saved my ing. for something else.

    Sounds yummy, I honestly can't wait to try them!
    I normally do not like B&W cookies because of the normal sugary topping, but with Duff's Ganache I'm sure gonna love them now!
    I'm going to tint my white chocolate pink!
    Thanks Duff! Happy Holidays ;

    Lori, uou really need to watch the video first! Duff descibes how to flatten the cookie dough with water and the back of a spoon, this will flatten and shape them. http://www.foodnetwork.com/12-days-of-cookies/package/index.html

    I
    always have trouble with the print option on this site so I just use the left side of the mouse and highlight the text and picture I want, then you can print with the "selection" option or just paste the text into an email or even save them in a Word file so you can edit and print to your liking.
