I liked that this recipe, it is simple and easy. I substituted a few items, I used evaporated milk and rice vinegar simply because this is what I had available.

Was fortunate enough to eat this each and every time it was offered as a student at Hockaday! I was so excited the first time this recipe was published in our alumni magazine that I immediately made it for my family. The taste of it brings back the sweetest memories for me.
It is a sweet pie, but I love it just the same!

This is a great recipie, the flavor is really great but just make sure that you use deep dish pans because the pie will rise and run over the pie pan if you use regular pie pans. Other than that no problem with the recipie. Very simple to make.

I tried for several years to recreate my husbands grandmothers chess pie. Could never get it right. THis is it. I knew she used cornmeal so when I saw this one I had to try it. I am now required by all the men in the family to bring this pie to all family gatherings. It's woth the calories to capture that taste of years gone by and for a brief moment we are kids again at the holidays. I make this by the recipe and don't change anything..thank you from all of my family

I have had this recipe bookmarked for a year now and finally got around to trying it. SOOOOO easy!!!! I halved the recipe since I was making it for my husband and I and it was the perfect size for one pie.

It is a sweet pie but it's very delicious! I'm not sure how it would alter the consistency if the sugar was reduced but if you're concerned about the sweetness just give it a try!
