I made this tonight for my husband and myself. I did as some of the other reviewers and served the dressing on the side as my husband likes to drown his salad and I like mine more on the "just dressed" side. I did change up some of the things - I marinated the chicken in the soy & toasted sesame oil as well as some rice vinegar and then we grilled it. I used 1/2 head of regular cabbage and one head of romaine hearts. I also used a fresh orange since I don't really like mandarine oranges. I also didn't realize that I was out of sliced almonds so we replaced it with toasted sesame seeds and sunflower seeds as well as some crunchy noodles. We loved this salad - it just got better with each bite. We loved the spicy/sweet dressing. I have a gallon bag of it left for lunches and can't wait to eat it again! Yumm!

Wow, I really wanted to like this, but I really didn't. I didn't like the canned oranges at all -- why not just use much tastier fresh oranges? And the dressing was too tart. Needed some more crunch. Bland chicken. Wondering why all the sterling reviews. I'm sure I could do things to make it work, but as written? Meh.

I absolutely loved this recipe! The spiciness of the dressing was just perfect. The chicken took twice as long to cook. I also added an orange citrus glaze on the chicken which I had from a previous recipe and that kicked it up a notch. I used a combination of organic romaine lettuce and organic napa cabbage. I put the dressing on per serving. Even my picky friend who doesn't like spicy dishes or salads loved this one and couldn't stop eating it. This one is definitely a keeper! No more getting a Chinese Chicken salad out when I can make an even more delicious one at home!

Turned out well for at light salad. The baked chicken took twice as long to cook, but very flavorful and worth it. Previous reviewer used crunchy noodles as topping, would like to try that. I was also out of the chili sauce, however still a great occasional dish. Dressing was great!

For such a simple recipe it packs a ton of flavor!!! Delicious...the best chinese chicken salad recipe i ever made and will probably never use another one. This has become a definate keeper. I love the compliments i get! Thanks Ellie!

This was ridiculously good. Simmered a whole chicken rather than baked it and used the breasts. Added more ginger to the dressing, about a one inch cube. Added a wee bit more garlic and about 2 teaspoons of the chili garlic sauce. Used a combo of romaine. And preshredded green cabbage. Rather than use canned mandarin oranges, I used a fresh navel one. I think this is my new favorite meal. Might add red pepper next time too. Going back to school on Tuesday and I'm excited to pack this!

This is exactly what I think of when I want a Chinese Chicken Salad. It was absolutely delicious! I used precut bagged cabbage (like you buy for coleslaw which saved having too much leftover cabbage and it worked just fine. I also love the crunchy noodles, so I bought a bag of Garlic & Ginger flavored ones and it added flavor and the crunch I wanted. I would make this again and again! Love, love, love!

Loved it! I did as Katew suggested and only put dressing on per serving. Wonderful flavor. The marinade for the chicken didn't seem to add a lot of flavor but the dressing certainly did. I have never bought nappa cabbage before. Ellie's video showed a nice green one. The only semi-green one I could find ended up costing almost $10, so not a cheap salad. But worth it.

What an amazing tasting recipe!! Someone made this at a potluck I tried recently, and decided to hunt for the right recipe. This is so light, and crisp, not to mention so easy to make! As long as you cook the chicken ahead of time, this takes no time at all. I agree with a lot of the other reviews, that you can pack it into several portions for easy packed lunches. You will not find a better chinese chicken salad recipe! Winner, all around!!

I made this never having heard of of Ellie Krieger or knowing her recipes are healthy. This is the single most delicious Chinese Chicken Salad I've ever tasted. And one of the best dishes I've ever had. Though it takes too long to make and requires a purchase of more cabbage than I can use, it's still worth it. I added a few of those crunchy asian noodle-y things for a contrast in texture.
