I've made this recipe twice and both times they held up fine.... I probably used more peanut buter and honey than was called for...

Also, I used Organic Chocolate Koala Crisps cereal whih made them extra tasty!

I made this the other day by memory and they came out great. Today, I came to get the recipe which I followed, and they are falling apart...

Last time I used more honey than peanut butter. So I would say up the honey by at-least 1/4 cup. or make sure that you don't go overboard with the PB and "underboard" with the honey (which I think I did

Also I made them (both times using sunflower butter instead of peanut butter because of allergies. I used raisins instead of cherries. Perhaps an idea so they are not so sweet, is using tart cranberries instead.

Maybe they'd be extra good by adding a pinch of cinnamon.

    Overall, very good taste.

Thank you so much Terry for the pressing tip! I do have 2 9x13 pans, and it worked out great. I have a 2 year old son that doesn't like sweets all that much; strange, I know. I'm assuming that it's because we just don't usually have that stuff in the house. This recipe is great. It's SO much better for you than using a crap load of butter and marsh mellows, and it tastes heavenly. : However, I replaced the cherries with chocolate chips, but I'll try it with the cherries too. Maybe even BOTH! Great job Ellie...you did it again. :
p.s. Terry's review suggests that after the mixture is in your dish, place parchment paper over it and press down reeeeeally hard. If you have an extra 9x13 pan, place that over the parchment paper, and put your whole body into it! Mine came out absolutely perfect.

I read all the reviews on this and saw how everyone had the same complaint.. how they don't stick together & they fall apart when you pick them up. So I added a couple of ingredients (along with a couple of calories to avoid that problem. I added about a teaspoon of butter & a handful of mini marshmallows to the peanut butter/honey mixture to make it extra sticky. And I couldn't find the dried cherries at the grocery store so I used craisins. I also pressed extremely hard on the mixture once in the dish, like Terry did & I think that was a huge help also. I brought them to a dinner party & they were a huge hit. My kids also love them so since they're so easy to make they're a great treat for them!

For everyone having problems with the mixture staying together here is the solution. After combining all the ingredients and placing them in the 9x13 pan, cover the dish with a piece of parchment paper. Next take another 9x13 pan(or 8x8 if you don't have another 9x13 and press down on the parchment paper into your original covered dish. And I mean PRESS! I usually put my entire upper body into it. Check under your parchment paper and you will notice that the mixture has become much more tightly compacted.

I ran into this problem before while making Granola bars, so when I saw all the reviews here I knew what everyone's problem was. Also to give credit where credit is due.....I got that pressing idea from Alton Brown. It is useful for any kind of mixture like this. Granola bars, protein bar, rice bars.....

This is actually a great recipe! It's just that the lack of emphasis on pressing the mixture kind of screws everything up.

I usually read at least several reviews before I try a recipe to avoid what happened with this one. Who would have thought that a simple Rice Krispie bar would be such a dud! Oh, taste was okay...but the problem here is that the honey peanut-butter mixture does not hold the bars together. I thought while I was making them that maybe, just maybe, I should bring the mixture to a boil, but double checking the recipe, Ellie said just until melted together...2 to 3 minutes. This is just not a good recipe...however, on the bright side, I will make the oatmeal cookie recipe I found on the dried cherries bag and make REAL Rice Krispie Treats when I get the hankering for them...with butter and marshmallows.

Like everyone else, mine didn't stick together either. I used a wonderful granola thinking to make it extra healthy, along with mixed dried fruit, and a few chocolate chips. I'm sure the granola had nothng to do with it not sticking. I thought of trying doubling the "glue" but as one review said, it was then too sweet. I really was looking for this to be great! Ellie, please get back to us on this one. You are really doing a great job!

Like almost everyone else, I could not find a way to make this mixture stick together. After chilling them they were easy to cut into squares, but you cannot eat them in your hand as they fall apart all over the place. I used peanut butter which is ground by my local grocer and has nothing at all added to the ground nuts, so maybe that's the problem. Maybe you have to use commercially made peanut butter. This will be eaten because it tastes very good, but it will have to be eaten with a spoon, or over ice cream or sherbet.

After reading everybodys reviews about them not sticking together I upped the peanut butter and honey to 3/4 cup each. They are way too sweet. Now what do I do???

I added Flax seed for omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants and fiber, and Quaker oats for more fiber, and a few chocolate chips (not a fan of dried fruit. This is outstanding!! A healthy snack that my kids LOVE!!
