Cool and refreshing on a sultry and torrid summer day. I served this salad with Claire Robinson's outstanding Ginger Poached Salmon with Lime Basil Sauce. A perfect match!

OMG!!!!!! Just like my (german Grandma Schulte used to make. Absolutely loved it! Only changes: left out the dill (not a fan, used sweet&low (cuz I didn't have sugar and made sure to sweat the cucumber before mixing. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT!! I feel like I finally found her recipe!

Awful. Way too much salt. Had to throw it out. I am going to try it without or minimal salt.

This was awesome and I don't like overly salty things. If you RINSE this adequately it should not be salty. It was wonderful. I almost used dried dill because fresh was $2.99 a bunch at Whole Foods, so glad I went with fresh-even with that insane price it was just worth it. I served this with summer tomatoes and her wonderful sloppy joes, however this time I made them without the pinto beans. What a great meal!! YUMMY!!!!

Lovely and refreshing.I always soak my red onions in salt before using in any salad. But just as in this recipe...you must rinse, rinse, rinse!! Great summer side dish, especially with cukes from the garden. I have even put them atop a grilled hamburger(kinda like a pickle and it was very tasty. Don't cut too thin to avoid them from getting mushy.

This is an excellent salad. It is really good as is, but I added a couple of dollops of low-fat sour cream which made it absolutely divine. I have to think that those reviewers who complained about the saltiness didn't bother to read the directions correctly - it clearly states to rinse the cucumbers after salting. Don't blame Ellie if you can't read the recipe correctly.

Too salty. There was little to no flavor except salt. I would not make it again.

Nice summer recipe. I used Splenda instead of sugar and enjoyed it.

Delicious! I have never made this before by letting the cukes and onions soak in salt. I suppose that gets any potential bitterness out? I would imagine it would be way too salty, as one reviewer stated, if you didn't rinse them afterwards. Anyway, this was delicious and my kids even loved it!

Delicious! I followed someone's suggestion from another review to triple the dressing and it was fantastic! I also think next time I'd cut the cucumbers thicker and leave some of the skins on. A trick for this is to take a fork down the sides of the cucumber to create "stripes". I think it'll make for a prettier, more colorful salad.
