also, feel free to leave out the orange juice and zest for a more traditional flavor

I've never made anything like this before but gave it a shot and am so glad I did. I used a food mill and they were light and delicious. The orange was very mellow and certainly didn't overpower the dish.

We loved mashed potatoes - it is a science in our house - very particular on the masher - heating the liquid, etc. This was a favorite.

Took me a while to comment, I actually used Ellie's cookbook not the web. I loved these sweet potatoes. They weren't overly sweet like most people make them. I usually always ate mashed sweet potatoes to be polite because everyone else loved them but found them to be not my taste. But when I made these last November, I actually had seconds. MY boyfriend goes nuts over sweet potatoes, so I'm glad to have a trusty recipe in my arsenal.

This is a great recipe and very easy. To make it even easier you can bake the potatoes at 400 for about 50 minutes and just squeeze them into the bowl. Saves the chopping and peeling!

I love sweet potatoes and I love orange zest, but I wasn't too keen on the flavors combined in this dish. I would make it again but skip the orange juice/zest. I also left out the nutmeg. I did use the butter and thought the potatoes had a nice texture overall.

I steamed the sweet potatoes until they mashed with a spoon, added 1/2 c. of low fat buttermilk, no butter, fresh OJ and nutmeg, used the emersion blender to puree, turned out great!

Great side dish to fish or chicken.
I made this recipe twice. Once as a side dish the other as a light lunch with a sandwich.
Thanks Elle. Keep the healthy recipes comin'.
