Yumm, this bean recipe was great with my cinco de mayo dinner. I do not buy canned beans so I boiled dry beans ahead of time and followed the recipe. It doesn't make for much so I made a double portion. Really easy to make!

Made this for my family today after reading the majority of the reviews. I used 1 clove of garlic, 1 can of a bean mix of red kidney, pinto, and black beans, 1/4 teaspoon chipotle chili powder and 1 teaspoon ground cumin (saw this in some other recipes. The family loved it, I will never buy canned refried beans again!

So easy and so good! Follow the recipe exactly, except I used my immersion blender. My beans weren't runny at all. I could see how they might be too runny if you just mash them coarsely with the back of a spoon, as the recipe says to do. I used 2 cloves of garlic, but they were a bit on the small side. I can see why some people might only want to use 1 clove. I was fine with 2 but I love garlic. Any more than 2 and it would have been to much. Next time I want to try adding a jalapeno for some spicy beans.

These are pretty much the best refried beans I have ever had. Simple to make and our guests devoured them!

Delicious and perfect texture (used my immersion blender. Used up my homemade black beans instead of canned pintos. I doubled the recipe because I was feeding 12 people but DID NOT double the amount of broth thanks to the comments by "raysasaki".

I am picky about how my refried beans are prepared so I was skeptical of this recipe. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised at how well the flavors complemented each others. After reading other reviews about the overwhelming garlic flavor, I used one clove of garlic which was perfect. Also, I added half the broth initially and then added more to get the right consistency. All in all, a very good recipe.

This recipe was great. It was perfectly paired with Ellie's spinach and mushroom quesadilla. Will definitely be making again.

My family and I LOVED them. So, easy to make, but I have to agree with some of the others. One may want to cut back on the chicken broth or it will make them runny...

The flavor in these beans was excellent - so much better than canned refried beans! There was a lot of liquid, so I let the beans cook longer than indicated to thicken up. I also added maybe a half teaspoon of cumin for additional flavor.
