I made this recipe and I thought overall it was a good recipe. I had to double the amount of beans because as I added the broth it seemed to be an overwhelming amount of liquid. I also only used one garlic clove.

I did not care for this recipe at all but appreciate it is a healthier alternative for refried beans. The garlic dominated this when prepared as written (and I usual like garlic, but yuck in this, and as others have mentioned, it could have used an slight kick of heat from jalapenos or cayenne. I just thought the taste of the pinto beans was completely overshadowed by garlic. I used dry beans so I know the flavor of the beans wasn't the problem as I usually love them. Very disappointed in this, will look for another way to season these in a healthy way. I would say maybe scale back the garlic to one clove and add something else to flavor these that compliments the beans with some heat. Consistency of beans was great though, just flavor off for me.

Easy and very good! I tripled the recipe and the beans were very soupy because of the amount of chicken broth. It probably would have cooked off eventually, but I was short on time. I drained some of the juices in a colander and they were good to go!

These are a great healthy version of refried beans. Instead of adding the cilantro at the end, I spooned 1/2 of the beans into a mini food chopper with the cilantro and processed until they were creamy. Then I added them back to the other beans and mixed them together. It gave them a good consistency and kept me from having to mash them so much. I also added cayenne pepper (to spice them up and extra garlic powder. They would be great in a burrito, on nachos or just add cheese on top of them as a side dish. This batch is a bit small so I would double or more if you are taking them to a party as a side dish. Also, I added a little extra chicken broth and let it cook down to give the flavors time to blend.

I enjoyed these beans, but next time I'll use better pintos. I used organic pintos from Trader Joe's. They didn't taste or smell right and were stuck in the can like paste. I wouldn't recommend them. Aside from that I added a few tablespoons of fresh salsa and stirred it into the beans. It gave them just the right amount of "kick." I'll make these again with a better grade of pintos.

This was fantastic. My guests loved it and I look forward to making it again. I agree with the other posts that you may want to double up on the recipe.

I made this recipe a second time, and this time I didn't have a problem with the onions! I made a double batch, and used a can of pinto beans and a can of black beans. DELICIOUS! This is now my go-to recipe for refried beans. And it's healthy!!

Super EASY and DELICIOUS. I've made this recipe several times now and I follow the recipe exact, except I saute fresh jalepanos with the onions for added spice. I also let the beans simmer for about an hour or cook on low in the crock pot like another reader suggested. SO good I triple the recipe so I have left overs. A must try!!
