Yes, my headline is correct: I hate refried beans. If we're out eating, I'll either ask them to leave them off, or completely ignore them. However, I desperately needed a healthy side to go with Ellie's Easy Chicken and Mushroom Quesadillas, and these looked easy. These were outstanding! So full of flabor (especially if you love garlic and chile powder and added a lot like I did, and extremely simple to make. Yum!

I made these as a side to Guy Fieri's "No Can Beato this Taquito" recipe and what a delicious meal! The beans are so quick and easy to mix and are truly delicious. Definitely double the recipe the original serving didn't make much. Yum!

This receipe was so easy and my husband and I loved it. We tend to put more seasoning than the receipe calls for because we are very big on flavor and we like our food spicy... extra spicy...
This receipe took me back to the days of living in Arizona, and when we got home from school my best friend's mom used to have Mexican Food waiting for us.
It was a real treat to make this in my home...

I used two 15.5 oz cans... so I doubled up on the receipe. Yummy!

After all the other reviews, I was looking forward to trying these beans. I followed the recipe exactly and was disappointed by the lack of flavor. I couldn't taste the chili powder at all so I can't imagine halving it as previously suggested. It seems like these would be a good base to add your own flavor to. I'll try that next time.

I LOVE these beans. I think the amount of chili powder is overpowering so I cut it in half the second time I made them. I leave out the cilantro b/c I serve with homemade pico de gallo.

A few people mentioned that it seems like there is a lot of broth - I think they tasted better the longer they simmered so I would suggest using the full amount the first time you make them. Let them simmer and thicken (the more you mash, the more they thicken. If it's too much, reduce it the next time.

I also suggest making a double recipe b/c the leftovers make healthy, tasty bean burritos for lunch the next day!

I, like another reviewer, used black beans (32 oz can. I was actually in the process of making the refried black beans recipe when I came across this one, and boy am I glad I found this recipe. Last minute I threw in the extra ingredients, and, even though the oz. of beans is more than double, the flavor was perfect! Fabulous with black beans for those of us on South Beach who miss refried beans!

I just made these tonight as a side dish with some tacos and WOW. They are so tasty! They have so much flavor and are so easy! Only thing I would recommend is to maybe go light on the broth and add more if you need it. They were runny at first and I had to simmer for a while so they could thicken up. I didn't use any cilantro and sprinkled with cheese, but even without they are delicious!!

This recipe is amazing. I love refried beans however the ones from the can never quite did it for me and I was always scared to attempt and make them from scratch because I knew they would never commpare to the one from my favorite Mexican Restaurant. This recipe is perfect. It was super simple and delicious and I even it is better than the one from the restaurant. It's good as a side dish for any mexican meal as well as a dip for some tortilla chips. Keep em coming Ellie. Great Recipe!!!!!

These were good and reminded me of the Wal-Mart no-fat beans that we serve regularly with fresh cilantro, garlic and hot sauce. So why bother with this?

I was pleasantly surprised at how flavorful these were, as well as how quick and easy they were to fix. It's nice to be able to have refried beans that aren't full of fat.
