I also used a store-bought (Pillsbury crust. The only other thing I changed was that I used dried cranberries instead of dried cherries. I mean, it IS Thanksgiving! I followed the rest of the recipe exactly - time, heat, etc. I like the idea of this recipe and I've made rustic-type pies before, but this one was sort of weird. The apples dried out somewhat and the whole thing didn't hold up very well. There wasn't much "glue" in the final product. Oh, I did use Granny Smith apples instead, too. Maybe they aren't as juicy or something. It was more like an envelope of crust with apples. The taste and overall consistency were fine.

I used my own crust I already had on hand in the freezer..so review is for the filling only/not the crust. Good but needed a bit more flavor in the spice department...I added a pinch of ginger and nutmeg as well

I made this and will make it again. It is really delicious and healthier than most recipes. Using low fat buttermilk is a great tip that allows you to reduce butter. Loved not peeling the apples and the half whole wheat crust. I love a chef who measures sugar in teaspoons not cups. Ellie is a treasure!

I would not recommend this to anyone. The crust was like cardboard... I think it's better to have the real thing in a smaller amount rather than this horrid recipe. The flavour was really disturbing because of the buttermilk, it was just not right...

This pie was amazingly delicious! I just served it to my boyfriend and sister-in-law and they both ate it up and said it was really good. I didn't have brown sugar so I put 1 tbsp. of sugar-free syrup on the apples and did only two tbsp. of regular sugar. The syrup added a nice hint of maple and it was plenty sweet. Will make again.

This is a super and easy dessert to whip up that will please everyone! No one needs to know how easy it is - your secret is safe with me. I've also interchanged some of the main ingredients, using pears and apples and walnuts and raisens and it's all good! Even used a pre-made piecrust (shhhh - tell them nothing! when I needed something awesome and fast. Don't forget to use a cookie or baking sheet with a lip (and I also use parchment paper to keep the mess to the minimum to keep all those juices off your oven floor. I say experiement with this one - you can easily make this dessert work for you!

I followed the recipe to the letter and it came out perfect. The crust was perfectly cooked and the apples and cherries were perfect together. The honey glaze was also a nice touch. My husband took one bite and threatened to eat the rest of the whole pie. I found the recipe super easy and again, it came out perfect. I served the pie slightly warm (close to room temperature and with a scoop of vanilla nonfat frozen yogurt. I think the yogurt really balanced out the flavors. I will be making this again for everyone I know!

I love Ellie's recipes b/c I know that I'm eating healthy and cutting way back on calories which is much better for my waistline. My man prefers the "real thing". I make a killer apple pie with a double crust that is out of this world good; so it is probably no wonder that he just didn't care for this version of apple pie. He also didn't like Ellie's healthy brownies (my mom and kids didn't either, so I won't be making those again! I, on the other hand, thought it was delicious with the lovely tart cherries and apples together! And it was so easy to put together -- much less work involved than making all that crust and rolling it all out etc... Will I make this again? I probably will. If you make this, I would say it's good, just don't expect oohs and aahhs!
