I made this recipe for my family but was careful not to mention what I had put it in it. They loved it! Even though it is chocked full of vegetables including mushrooms which they think they don't like. I found adding more salt and pepper plus a little garlic in the mashed potatoes and cauliflower was even better. I am sending this recipe to my mother and my sisters immediately.

I made this for a Monday night dinner. While time intensive enough that I might keep it for a weekend meal from now on, the flavors were really great. I did cheat and add a bit more salt and some roasted garlic to the cauliflower/potato mixture. However, this does not taste like a light recipe. The portion size you're allowed is really generous, and even my husband did not end up eating all his. Thanks, Ellie! I love your recipes and show.

I made this the other night for the family and everyone LOVED it. I did add a tiny bit more salt to sharpen the flavor. I also used the same recipe and substituted leftover rotissere chicken for the ground beef, replaced the beef stock with low sodium chicken stock, and used baby portobello mushrooms instead of white button mushrooms. Delicious. I must admit that night we did a potato-only topping. In lieu of some of the butter and milk in the potatoes I used chicken broth. I turned out great. I will definitely make this again.

I too loved this recipe. I used red new potatoes and left out the cauliflower (cause I hate it and thought it was fabulous. I combined the hot potatoes, milk and butter in the blender (who hand-mashes potatoes anyway! and the consistency was amazing! Definitely add more salt as the plain flavors need a bit of help. I made it and plan to freeze a few helpings of it; I think it will be fabulous in those cold and dark winter months!

I loved this recipe! I don't eat beef so I used ground turkey and low-sodium chicken broth instead. I used a lot more cauliflower than potatoes and it was absolutely yummy. I did use a little more salt than Ellie's recipe (but I used Kosher salt. The next time I make this recipe I will add more veggies (including green beans and less butter.

Loved this delicious recipe. I also had to kick up the seasoning a bit for my hubby, but very simple to do. Still, it tasted great, I didn't feel guilty at all with the lean beef, the carrots and the cauliflower added to the potatoes.

Ellie, thanks for all the great tips!

It's a great healthy way to make this pie. I would just add more carrots and more potatoes.I would also pre all the ingredients before you start. We had it for dinner yesterday and we loved everything about this dish. Next time I will make it for my daughter and see what she thinks. I will not tell her it's healthy...
I bought Ellie's cookbook and have done a few of her dishes. I really enjoy her show. Gracias!!!

A delicious recipe for which thank you but please note, you have made a delicious Cottage Pie, not a Shephard's pie. Remember, shepherds look after sheep, not cows and shepherd's pie can only be called shepherd's pie if it is made with LAMB! Any other meat and it is a cottage pie. Mange bien!

but i snuck it in there and he didn't even notice! this shepards pie is great and i love that it isn't bad for you! We added a lot more sea salt and omitted the peas and substitutes corn instead. i love how crusty the potatoes get when they are baked. I think next time, i may just throw it under the broiler for a minute to get it nice and crusty since all the ingredients are hot already.

i plan on keeping this recipe one for a long time!

I needed a new way to use ground beef and this was it! My family loved it! I added a little rosemary and a little extra thyme. I loved the mix of cauliflower and potatoes. It was a nice change and I will make it again.
