This had a very nice flavor. I don't know why you would want it to be spicy. It's perfect the way it is!

Loved this recipe! My only experience with sloppy joe's in the past is Manwich, and these were much better! I had made it for my roommates and friends and everyone wanted seconds! I also felt that it was pretty healthy for such a comfort food type of meal. I think next time I may try and add more veggies (just my preference, but this is definitely a keeper!

About a week ago, I happen to see Ellie Krieger prepare these sloppy joes on the cooking channel, and I had to make them, but was very disappointed how they turned out. The sloppy joes were VERY BLAND. I thought the jalapeno would of added some heat, but it did not, and the molasses didn't sweeten the sloppy joes, so I added some chili powder hoping it would spice them up, plus I added some dark brown sugar, hoping it would sweeten them up, but the end results, neither my husband and I didn't care for them. Hubby politely adviced me not to make them again.

I used this recipe , but used manwich instead of the tomato sauce! Turned out great, everyone was happy...from manwich lovers to the rest of us that don't think much of that canned BBQ.

This recipe on it's own is good, but with a few additions can be great.
Coarsely cut up 1 cup of mushrooms and add with the wet ingredients to give the sloppy joe's some more meat-like texture. If you make it to the recipe you'll end up with about a 40% meat, 60% veggie ratio which is great, but the mushrooms will help trick the family into thinking they're eating something richer!
I also added 2 Tbs of BBQ sauce to sweeten the sauce as I found it was a little to savory for what I was expecting for a traditional sloppy joe. For a little extra kick (which is always a plus in our home add 1 tsp of Sriracha or other hot sauce!

I have made this several times, with and without the beans and it's terrific. I add a tablespoon of steak sauce to add a little more depth of flavor. Comfort food for the hubby that I can feel good about serving.

Yum! I don't know who the reviewers are that say there is no flavor to this recipe, it's quite tasty. I don't follow recipes with measuring but eyeball it & it worked out great in this case. I would make this again. I made it with ground turkey instead of beef. And I used olive oil in the beginning when cooking the onions & meat - I think I would add the peppers then, too.

We just absolutely love this recipe. Reminded me of the old canned Sloppy Joe's, but with much better flavor. This time around, I made it exactly like the recipe, but it leave a lot of room to change and modify. We will make it again and again.

I followed the recipe except that I used ground turkey (as I have for the last few years for sloppy joe's and tacos, supplemented some of the tomato sauce with 1 small can of low sodium V8 Juice (as I generally do for red sauce items and I didn't have fresh jalepeno on hand, so I used canned.
To us, there was something missing in the sauce. Perhaps the ketchup or brown sugar that she likely eliminated to make it healthier. I think I'll add a bit of each to the leftovers, let it meld overnight and see if it's better tomorrow.

OK so my kids wouldn't go near it, and a little spicy for me just on a bun, but I enjoyed the leftover batch very much heated and served with tortilla chips as a dip.
