I have to agree with other reviewers. This recipe is an excellent base, but boy, does it need help! I made it in the slow cooker because I had a bunch of errands to run. Based on other reviews, I added an extra chili and 3 cloves of garlic. After returning home, the chili was very bland, so I added the following: more cumin, 2 kind of chili powder, garlic salt, more regular salt, a couple of shakes of tobasco, and a can of tomato paste. It had a little bit of a kick, but not too much. After simmering for a while longer, the chili had lots of flavor and is even better the next day. I served it with sour cream and cheese. I will make it again, but definitely with the additions!

Disappointing. I had been looking forward to making this chili for a while and all of the reviews I read were very promising, but I was not thrilled with the end result. It was very bland as recent people have mentioned. I like bold, flavorful chili and this was not it. I kept thinking it needed something. I would recommend giving it a try though, especially with alterations. Definitely cut back on water and maybe more chipotles.

Provides a good basic framework; I added 1 tbsp garlic powder, 3 tbsp sugar, 1 can tomato paste, 1 can corn, 1/4 tsp cinnamon, and substituted 3 tbsp chili powder for the chili in adobo. I also cooked in slow cooker for 6 hours which really developed the flavor. Hardly the recipe I started out with, but without exaggeration is the best pot of chili I've ever had.

I agree with mjr99, this is very bland. BUT I will try it again, maybe use twice or 3 times as much chipotle. Loved all the beans though.

I made this last night and my husband said it was the best chili ever! I also made the homeade salsa and guac (which I spiced up a bit more but GREAT recipes in all! I love the different beans and lean sirloin, I like this better than the turkey ground meat. For those that said it was bland, add more adobes and chili!!

Very good and hearty, but like some other reviewers found that I needed to cook at a much lower heat in order to keep all of the liquid from evaporating. I have made this chili several times, but added extra chipotle and adobo for more heat. It is also great with ground turkey instead of beef. Try pairing it with the Neely's recipe for Honey Cornbread Muffins!

I thought this recipe was great!! I’m always looking for easy, quick meals, and this one delivered. I took this chili camping with me and it was a HUGE hit. It has JUST the right amount of spice. I used two out of the three beans: black and kidney beans. I love the carrots and red pepper. Will definitely make again.

This recipe is great! I'm not a huge fan of spicy, but I used what the recipe called for anyway with the chipotle in adobo and it was just right. The flavor that it adds is fantastic. The only change I made was that I left out the kidney beans since my son doesn't care for them. When it was ready, I topped it with a mexican cheese blend, chopped fresh tomatoes and chopped fresh avocado. MMMMM!!
