It is excellent prepared according to the instructions Ellie gives us. It is the perfect chili to change anyway you want it. I made it with ground turkey and used a 14 oz can of chicken stock instead of water. I add chipotle chile flakes for some heat. It is five star chili all the way. Don't forget low fat Mexican cheese or sour cream on top for decoration.

Wonderful chili and easy to make!!! I added some paprika and chili powder to kick it up another notch. Great flavor! Even my 7 years old had a bawl :

So EVERYONE liked this chili, and I was surprised, because I did not think it would work well at all. A couple of adjustments (mentioned by other reviewers...you MUST WATCH THE HEAT after you cook the beef, because it never says to lower the heat, and all my liquid boiled away...I had to add probably another cup of water to balance things out. That was alright, because the adobo chile/sauce was REALLY HOT...I like hot, but I was making this for my kids too, and it was too hot (hence, when I boiled off all the liquid it made it worse. I only used half a chile, and probably next time will only use 1 tsp of sauce. The carrots were a surprise...you could not even tell they were in there after everything cooked. Typical Ellie, hiding vegetables! But that was a good addition. Everyone loved it, even my husband, and that's really saying something. I'd made it again for sure (the ingredients were really no fuss, but with the adjustments I mentioned above.

Made this for New Year's eve and it was surprisingly good. Read some reviews first so I used beef broth instead of water and lots of extra chipolte peppers and adobo sauce to make sure it was spicy enough. It had a great flavor and terrific "kick" to it. Topped it with sour cream, jalapenos and cheddar cheese with corn bread on the side. Delicious!

Made this for my husband thinking he would never eat "healthy" chili and he LOVED IT! It was so good! Will make this again and agan. Next time I will watch the heat though. It did not take the chili near as long to thicken up and instructed! A keeper for sure!!

Ellie's recipes can be kind of bland but this one was surprisingly good. I used a can of Fire Roasted Crushed Tomatoes instead of regular crushed tomatoes for extra depth of flavor and smokiness, and beef broth instead of water. It turned out great! Will definitely make again. It had the heartiness and flavor we were looking for.
