this is healthier than eating a 270 calorie candy bar loaded with sugar. i personally would rather eat this than a package of over sweetened candy any day. substiutute.....these are only guidelines. i personally like the mixed she has made. however a chef can not please every one. there are bound to be complaints. it is written we sometimes need to treat ourselves...i call this snack my special treat. far better than eating other things.

I thought this was a great tasting mix. I made a couple of substitutions though. I used almonds instead of cashews, my store didn't have dates so I used pineapple rings (chopped, and I skipped the coconut. So in the end it was almonds, macadamias, papaya, pineapple and ginger. I intend to make this again only next time I think I'm going to double the amount of fruit.

Just because this snack is not one of those 100-calories altered everyday snack pack does not mean that it is unhealthy as the first reviewers stated. I don't think it would be beneficial to cut out macadmia or cashew nuts just because they are high in fat. Not all fat is bad for you and I'd rather have the health kind from a raw nut than any snack pack on the market. This mix is delicious and the crystallized ginger adds such a nice bite to it; I always have one with me for those long days on campus. I'm not a health nut, but I do watch what I eat and appreciate Ellie's help. (No matter what the ignorant might say

I just wanted to say that I whole-heartedly agree with Kim and her philosophy on health, food, and nutrition. For those of you who criticise Ellie Krieger, perhaps you need to figure out just what is making you so angry. Is it perhaps that you are in actuality upset at yourself for not having the same knowledge or discipline as her? You do not have an inkling of an idea as to how hard she worked to be at where she is today, so DO NOT presume to think and claim that she is incompetent. She, unlike you, has actually studied nutrition, and she understands all its complexities. If this recipe simply does not fit into your daily diet, then do not give it a poor rating. This could deter people, who may actually enjoy it, from every trying it. Keep your nasty comments to yourself.

hi-calorie or not, hi-fat or not, food that is from nature & not a lab is best for the body. ppl around the world eat coconuts, avocados, & a variety of nuts with great pleasure & health-not b/c they're hi in Omega-3's. americans are hooked on low-fat, hi-protein, Omegas, cholesterol....it's about portion. so, for the folks that need a "100 calorie pre-packaged" snack. they're out there at the grocery store. those yummy artificially packaged goodies. i'll take a sensible portion of dark choc or nuts anytime as a "meal replacement" as ellie states on her show. remember, you're having 8 small meals a day so a handful of dried fruits and nuts is a meal. spend some time in other countries & you'll notice that their food doesn't all come from pre-packaged little boxes that they're encouraged to recycle. no, food comes from the farm & nature. slim folks out there really do eat like this & workout. it's about being sensible & not sitting in front of the tv & driving everywhere. poor health is generally passed on through families. stick to nature. if you're eating this meal with fresh veggies until your next small, healthy meal, you'll be fine. no food, especially a natural food, should be off limits-what a ridiculous obsession! it's not about being on a diet, it's about being on a live-it!

A great mix. The salt/sugar mix is yummy and a great energy booster. Don't worry about the fat - as long as it is healthy and you watch the portion size, you will be okay. Most nuts are high in fat, but are the best energy boosters I know. Sure beats a candy bar. Thanks, Ellie, for another great "snack".

A complete disaster if you care about your health. As any qualified nutritionist will tell you, the only nuts to avoid are cashews and macadmia nuts. Other selections of nuts are actually beneficial, but not these two.

Forget Ellie, she's usually a complete disaster when it comes to her not-healthy desserts and snacks.
