I was very excited to try this recipe because I am looking for ways to incorporate oatmeal into my diet without all of the sugar in the instant oatmeals. This recipe turned out to be disappointing because it is very bland. I doubled the vanilla and brown sugar and had to use lots of cinnamon, which made it very tasty, but I ended up doing what I didn't want to do... using lots of sugar. I guess I will continue my hunt for a delicious and healthy oatmeal recipe!

This is suuuuch a great recipe. I made one cup worth of oatmeal so pretty much divided the recipe in half. I was still able to split the end result with my roommate and have a little left over.

Nonetheless, I loved this recipe and I'm not the greatest fan of oatmeal. I did add a little more walnuts and sugar while substituting craisins for raisins. I think a little more cinnamon would help too.

Nonetheless, this recipe is great, ohhhhh so simple, and is great for someone like me who doesn't have much time to waste cooking.

This recipe is really quick and easy and so yummy. I was concerned about the sweetness after reading several of the reviews because I am trying to keep it on the healthy side, but I didn't think it needed any additional sugar. I used allspice instead of nutmeg and pecans instead of walnuts because that's what I have. I agree with the previous reviewer about toasting the nuts, it really does make a huge difference in the flavor.

I tried this recipe a few weeks ago and have made it many times since. On the positive side, this is cheap, quick and easy to make. Most of the ingredients (except the milk are non perishable so you can keep them in stock. It tastes pretty good (if you don't like oatmeal, you may not like it - my fiance didn't and it seems mostly healthy.
On the not so positive side, I found that the amount of sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla was not enough. I had to double the sugar and quadruple the rest. That is, I added a tablespoon of brown sugar, 1/4 tsp vanilla, 1/8 tsp cinnamon and a pinch of nutmeg *per serving*.
Secondly, the nutritional info seems wrong. Even without my changes, the original recipe has the following ingredients per serving: 1/2 cup oats (150 calores, 1/8 cup raisins (65 calories, 1/8 cup walnuts (100 calories, 1/4 cup milk (32 calories and 1/2 tbsp brown sugar (22 calories. This adds up to 369 calories, not the 255 posted in the recipe. Note that I got the calorie information from the package labels.

This is delicious. My husband makes steel cut oats in a small crock pot overnight. We did the recipe otherwise as is but we did use splenda brown sugar instead of real sugar. We eliminated the raisins but would have been excellent with them too. Excellent.

This is the best oatmeal I've ever had. I make this recipe frequently, and it goes down especially well on cold winter mornings. Be sure to toast the chopped walnuts, as that adds an extra dimension of flavor.
