I made this tonight for my family, and everyone loved it. I changed 2 things to the recipe. I used Bison instead of lamb and Rotel (diced tomatoes with green chiles instead of the can of tomatoes. The flavor of the bison and rotel made a huge difference. I highly recommend this recipe for families with kids. They will eat it and all the veggies in it as well! Enjoy!

This recipe took quite a while to make, but was worth it. I tweaked the spices and the amounts of a couple other ingredients a bit, but it ended up having a great flavor. Yum!! I will definately make this again. My son and husband LOVED it!

The original recipe is pretty bland. Honestly. So after repeat tries with bits of improvements I've come up with a family favorite, especially during cold weather.

Celery: Take it out. It's tasteless and boring.

Carrots: Add it in as a substitution for the celery. Not only does it add complementary, natural sweetness it also adds some color. I dice them in little quarter-inch cubes (at least a cup.

Mushrooms: Chop them up like the carrots (but a little larger for better bites and add them in (at least a a cup.

Onions: The recipe calls for 2 cups, but I keep it about one cup.

Can of whole tomatoes: Ditch it for a can of diced, fire-roasted tomatoes.

The rest is the same, with the exception of maybe tweaking the potatoes. The last time I made the potato part I did 1/2 russet and 1/2 sweet potato, mixed and mashed. It ended up being a tad on the sweeter side - my wife liked it better but thinks that maybe a 1/3 sweet to 2/3 russet would be perfect. Layer it well, top with cheese, and serve with bread.

This was awful. Very, Very bland. Didn't matter what I did to it, just wasn't good.

My other half, who is not a fan of green beans or casseroles, LOVED this and even asked for a portion to take for lunch... something that has never happened! I only had a pound of beef but still followed the rest of the recipe exactly except I reduced the amount of milk to 1/4 cup and added extra cheese on top. Next time I make this, I will increase the amount of mashed potatoes as 2 lbs. didn't seem to go very far even with the reduced amount of meat. Although a bit time-consuming, it's worth the effort as we have plenty of left-overs to enjoy.

This is a delicious recipe. You don't have to be exact with the ingredients. I love mashed potatoes, so I add extra. I've used carrots and corn to change up from the green beans. You can even serve the meat mixture on its own. It's that tasty. I'm definetly making this dish tonight.

I cut the recipe in 1/2 because I only had 1 pound of ground beef on hand and it turned out great. Still used a 9x13 pan so it only needed to cook for about 35 min. DELICIOUS and healthy, my family loved it!

My family loved this dish and, being a working mother, I put it all together the night before and baked it the next day. Worked out wonderfully! Flavors blended well.......great!
