I'm used to cream pie fillings being firm but light. This banana cream recipe is more of a pudding or thick custard, as described in the cooking directions. The crust is hard and too thick when baked in a 9-inch pie pan, so I recommend substituting the graham cracker crust from Emeril's key lime pie recipe.
I baked this Banana Cream Pie without the fancy sauces and shaved chocolate, so overall--after adding my own flavorings to achieve a better banana flavor--my rating is based on the ease and creative value of the recipe.

have made this recipe often and always comes out excellent. A little on the time consuming side, but well worth the time. It is a favorite of my work group and family and friends.

I made this for my daughter's 19th birthday. She loves banana cream pie. The sauces just kicked it up a few notches! Try it . . . you won't be disappointed! I wouldn't rate it as difficult, only maybe for the novice cook.

This was my first attempt at making a pie and it turned out pretty darn amazing. I think the its all about the vanilla bean, swear. The flavor is fantastic. I didn't use as many bananas it calls for in the recipe and it still turned out great. The custard part should of been firmer for me and my crust fell apart some. However it tasted so great nobody cared.
It was a hit with my family and everyone wants the recipe. Go for it, it's not that hard.

This is my favorite dessert to make, it is so great. It may not always come out the consistency you want if you dont know how to make a custard well but it is still so delicious and it looks beautiful anyway!

I have made this pie ALOT! In the initial recipe it required 1/2 banana mashed up in the crust, which made the crust a little hard to cut thru. I eliminated it and otherwise the pie was absolutely incredible. I'm glad to see the recipe doesn't include that now. I have numerous requests for this pie. Although it's a bit time consuming, it's really easy, once you make it the 1st time and it's always consistant. It's the best banana cream pie I've ever had. Even my husband who doesn't like banana's or any cream pie, except chocolate, raves about this one.

This is by far the best banana cream pie I've ever had. I've served it both with the caramel drizzles, whipped cream and chocolate sauce, as well as the banana cream pie without any of the toppings, and both versions are excellent. Everyone who has tried it wants the recipe!
