I used fresh homegrown sweet potatoes that I picked that day and had to substitute corn syrup for cane syrup but they came out great and now my wife wants me to make them all the time.

I discovered this recipe about 4 years ago and it became so popular in my home that now it has become a tradition for my turkey day feast! Very tasty!

None of the stores in my area had the cane syrup, so I followed the recipe without adding that. It was Deeeelicious! Baking the potatoes in the oven was an extra step that I'm not used to doing when preparing sweet potatoes, but this turned out excellent! It worked AWESOME with Emeril's Sugarcane Baked Ham with Apples and Pears.

They were a little complex to make (and very messy, and ultimately weren't really worth it. There was nothing wrong with the way they tasted, it just wasn't sweet enough. Of course, I come from a southern family with a major sweet tooth. Overall, my grandmother's are better.
