I made this cake for my husband and he loved it. I didn't make the ice cream but made the cake and icing. It's extremely easy and tasty. I didn't use the sheet pan but I used a slightly larger 13x9 (whatever the next size is. And I used Nestle's Cocoa that says it's perfect for baking. I will make this cake again and share with others. Thanks Emeril.

I am planning to make this cake, ina's chocolate cake, and sarah campbells chocolate fudge cake and they all call for cocoa powder. I don't know which kind of cocoa powder to use though. Can someone please tell me whether to use dutch process or unsweetened cocoa powder?

I only made the chocolate cake part of this recipe and oh my gosh was it the best! I used Tyler Florence's recipe for chocolate sauce which calls for milk chocolate but all I had on hand was white chocolate. I poured the sauce over this cake and it just sucked up the sauce and made it soooooo delicious. I never made a chocolate cake before, but I will never look for another recipe for it cause I don't know how anyone could beat this. This goes in the recipe box.

The cake lacked chocolate flavor big time and looked funky (I guess it was the shortening. The fudge icing was really good but once it settled on the cake it kept cracking.

I've made the cake several times and it's the best chocolate thing I've ever had. I haven't attempted the ice cream yet but I'm sure it compliments it wonderfully.
