Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon plus 1 cup butter (2 sticks)
  • 1 tablespoon plus 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 ounces unsweetened chocolate, roughly chopped
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground chipotle chile pepper
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup chopped Mexican chocolate or semisweet chocolate morsels

Directions

Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F.

Grease and flour an 11 by 7-inch baking pan or dish with 1 teaspoon of the butter and 1 tablespoon of the flour. Heat the remaining butter and the unsweetened chocolate in a saucepan over low heat, stirring constantly, until melted. In a medium bowl, stir together remaining flour, sugar, cinnamon, and ground chipotle. Add sugar mixture to melted chocolate mixture, stirring to combine. Add eggs, mixing until smooth. Stir in chopped chocolate or chocolate morsels.

Pour mixture into the prepared baking pan or dish. Bake until the center is set, 35 to 40 minutes. Cool completely and then cut into small squares.

Moist and chocolatey. I usually despise cinnamon with chocolate but this works surprisingly well with the chipotle.

These brownies are fantastic! So glad I tried them. The rich chocolate flavor then "BAM" the spice hits. Great recipe

This is truly the BEST brownie I have ever eaten! It has a perfect texture, and the flavor is unmatched with the spices! Just a bit of heat! I used Abuelita brand Mexican Chocolate which I use often for fantastic hot chocolate. Having it in chunks through out the brownie was absolutely delicious! An amazing cinnamon flavor in every bite! I took the advice of one of the other posters and used 1/2 t. chili powder and 1/2 t. cayenne pepper in lieu of the ground chipotle chile pepper since I didn't have the time to hunt it down. I took these to a church meeting tonight, and EVERYBODY was giving me compliments on how incredible they tasted! Too cool! I also used an 8x8 pan since I did not have the 11x7. The brownies were really thick in the smaller pan. Baked them for about 35 minutes. Perfection! Thanks, Emeril! You rock!
