This is a great recipe if you follow the recipe to the letter. Yes it is sweet and very rich, however you serve it in smaller portions and the vanilla bean ice cream mellows the sweetness. Also if you do what you are suposed to with the simple syrup the cake is not dry in the least. You do need to know what you are doing with this one so if you don't have the skill set just try easier recipes until you gain the experience you need.

I wish I had read the reviews before making this. My daughter, all on her own, picked out the recipe and was so excited about it. We made the cake portion only, then I read the reviews because something didn't look right about the cake, or sound right about the recipe. So glad I did before wasting any more chocolate or butter on this thing. Eww. Flat, dry, heavy. One disappointed mother/daughter pair. After trying other Lagasse recipes and not being happy with them, this is most likely my last attempt at Emeril's recipes. Or, maybe Food Network needs to vet what they put on their website a little bit more responsibly.

The cake is very dry and to sweet. The frosting is great, but the cake is bad.

The mousse and frosting were tasty but the cake was so dry. Would make the mousse and frosting again but with a different cake recipe.

I made this as a b-day cake, and my co-workers loved it. I used Baker's Joy flour spray, and had no problem removing the cakes from their pans.

I made this cake twice and both times it stuck in the pans no matter how much butter or cooking spray I used.
