It is a very great recipe and I love the chocolate ganache.

I gave this 4 stars only because I cut back the filling for the pecans by about 1/3. We prefer more nuts than all the filling. Thought the ice cream was great tasting but it didn't set up nicely in my machine and didn't freeze as firm as I like. The chocolate sauce was just yummy.

Making the pie wasn't very hard but the recipe had a few things that really didn't matter...

First off, taste really isn't a big difference based on light and dark corn syrup...I made two pies one with dark and one with light and no one could tell the difference in taste. This isn't a big deal and not what really affected my rating but just something that should be added.

Secondly, the ice cream was great until I added jack daniels in it. Don't put this much jack into it as the recipe states or your ice cream will taste like alcohol not ice cream. I suggest no alcohol I feel this was just for show. If you watch the show he puts alot of jack onto his cake...if I wanted it to taste like Jack I could just drink it. This is why my rating was low considering making homemade ice cream isn't the cheapest thing in the world to do and to ruin it because of alcohol is even worse.

Third, since I made two pie's I also used salted and unsalted butter in both just to experiment since I had both in the fridge. Honestly, you could use either and I really feel that they should list this especially for new people getting into cooking. It had no effect on the taste and/or how the tart came out. Yet again this didn't affect my opinion on rating but just something that should be added.

The pie tasted great...the topping was excellent...and the ice cream was "well not to great especially for homemade ice cream" so don't add the alc. That is why I rated this recipe a 3 out of 5

If you make the slight changes to the recipe which should save someone time and/or money...not add alcohol to the ice cream it would probably be a strong 5 because the tart filling was amazing!
