My daughter and I have had this on Christmas morning every year for years. She starts making sure I have all of the ingredients a week in advance. 2% seems to work just great, but oh yes, it would be a sinfully decadent delight with whole milk. The aroma is fantastic. It makes about 3 servings because I have GIANT coffee mugs. : Never skip the fresh whipped cream - you have to go all the way with this tasty treat.
Thank you Emeril!

We call this "crack in a cup" in my family. We've been making it for years at this point. I just had to search for it again cause I always forget the milk/cocoa measurement.use Good Coffee and strong is very important.. And I use more orange- juice, zest. and peel and if you can find a blood orange.. that makes a difference...I love coffee and drink a lot of it...and spend way too much money at stupid starbucks. I would much rather make this on a saturday morning... But now reading the reviews below...don't use skim milk. yuck, its supposed to be fattening! well- anyway we call it crack in a cup for a reason.

I made this for my family on Christmas morning...I was disappointed..didn't have the flavors I was hoping for...followed the directions exactly, don't know where I went wrong..Could have made hot choclate, added coffee and would have tasted the same..my family liked it-didn't love it..plus the fact that by the time you buy all of the ingredients, its quite pricey..won't be making this again =-(

Made this this morning for our breakfast and everybody really liked it. We only drink skim milk so I used that instead of whole milk. I also ended up using more then the recipe called for and also added more coffee because it was a bit too chocolate-y for our likings! I agree, that it makes less servings then 8 to 10.

This is THE best! I've made it for our family every Christmas morning for 4 years now. Don't change a thing about the recipe. I am not a clove fan, but this all just works together so well. I do use skim or 1% sometimes, I also use more brewed coffee than it calls for. The flavors of all of the ingredients are needed to really get the most out of this. It is fantastic and everyone asks, every year now, if I'm going to make it for breakfast!

I made this with 1% milk and it was incredibly rich and delicious. I can't imagine what it would be with whole milk. For serving, I just brewed a half pot of strong coffee, then strained the milk mixture into it. Very easy.

Omitted the cloves and orange peel and did not put whipped cream on it. I used skim milk and it was fine. I'd say 8-10 portions is a little generous, I think it only made 4-6. Would definitely make this again.
