Great soup! My first experience with celery root as well and really enjoyed it. It has a ton of flavor and very hearty. I will definitely make this one again.

I love this soup. I used chicken sausage instead of bacon and fat free half and half to lighten it up and buff up the protien. I make it all the time.

Never tried celery root before, but am now hooked. Similar flavor to celery, but not as sharp. I will look forward to Fall each year so we can enjoy this soup again and again.

I fixed this for my mom because she was sick and she loved it, so did I. I will cut the salt in half next time but other than that I wouldn't change a thing! I also plan to look for more recipes with celery root as this was my first time using it! YUM!

Followed the recipe exactly, I wouldn't change a thing. Simply amazing, I made it for the first time this Sunday and I'm making another batch of it for the Christmas pot-luck at work. I think trying to explain how good it tastes with a few words doesn't really do it justice, so just make it and find out for yourself!

Served this last night to a large group of parents as part of a scholarship fundraising event. When asked what the soup was many were taken back by the inclusion of celery root as they had never experienced it before. After tasting this recipe (made it in a very large batch the vast majority were amazed at the taste of this dish. This ugly little root won several new fans as a result of this recipe. I did make one adjustment and that was to eliminate the bacon and substitute it with all beef, small diced kielbasa due to the presence of non-pork eating attendees. Even without the pork this was a hit. The rating given in this review reflects the opinions given to me at the end of the night and are not exclusively mine.

Excellent job with this recipe Emiril! My German mother-in-law made her potato soup with celery root and it was the best soup I have ever tasted (Sorry mom. I never knew celery root existed until I watched how she had made it and I asked what that was. Her English was just as bad as my German so I never really knew until I tried this recipe here. It tastes almost as good as her's and I thank you Emeril. She has past on but when I make this soup it brings back memories of her. Her lentil soup was to die for too. Actually, everthing she made was excellent. God bless you Frau Kaufeld!
