The soup alone is worth making...never thought about eating cream of mushroom soup, now I know better!
Next time I will buy frozen french cut beans, though...the idea of slicing all those greenbeans into slivers was just too much prep work, so I left them whole, and they just don't hold onto the sauce as well. But the rest of the dish is to die for! Hard to hang onto those fried onions long enough to get them on the cassarole, though =

I loved this soup, so I was really jazzed to try the green bean casserole. It was runnier than I would've liked, took a lot longer to cook than the recipe indicated, and the onions were a bit labor intensive and didn't add more than the canned version to the flavor. Make the soup though--it's yummy!

This recipe was a little labor intensive but was well worth the effort. The next time I would make the soup a day ahead. I also made the essense a day ahead. It has just a hint of heat but everyone loves it. My 6 year old was not impressed. Definately worth the effort for Thanksgiving.

Indeed this is a good recipe although very tedious to prepare. IT could also be a hit or miss recipe. I made this before and everybody loved it. I like the spicy after taste and would skip the brandy if you don't have any available. I know some people who made this same exact recipe and it didn't turn up the way it supposed to be. One lady put a little bit too much brandy and the alcohol did not evaporate well enough that it made the dish bitter.

Every recipe by Emeril I've ever done has turned out better than imagined. This particular recipe lasted about 5 minutes at my Thanksgiving table. The fontina cheese added a creamy dimension that my previous g.b. casseroles never had. I added a lot of mushrooms to much success. Try it, everyone will love it!!!
