This is so good! I love it. The only thing I did differently is I drained out some of the fat from the bacon, it was way too much bacon grease for me, kept half of it though and it seemed like plenty.
I don't know why anyone would replace the clam juice with chicken broth! That just sounds gross. If you are making clam chowder you NEED clam juice.
The clam juice is not overpowering at all. It is perfect.
I live in Colorado and seafood here is hard to find at a reasonable price, especially shellfish. so I used canned clams and bought a jar of clam juice, it it came out great.

Easy recipe to follow. My husband thought I bought at a restuarant it was so good. The good news is that it did not have an overwhelming fishyness to it.

Excuse me, but the clam juice is required. One reviewer indicated the clam juice was too clammy. And another reviewer said to replace the clam juice with chicken broth. Hello.....! This is clam chowder, not chicken chowder with clams. This recipie is very tasty. I realise that we all have different taste buds But if it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, walks like a duck.... guess what..... it's not chicken.

I made this for my family and they all loved it! The next time I make this I think i'm going to use chicken broth instead of clamb juice though. Also having all the ingredients already prepared will make things a LOT easier on you, but over all this recipe is awesome.

It is really fantastic and relatively easy receipe. I read comments that said the clam taste was too over powering. Instead of adding Clam juice substitute chicken broth and you like the taste much better. I bought some canned clams (pre-chopped and I drained the juice into the pot. 4 6.5 oz cans yields about 1 1/2 cups and added chicken broth to make up the rest. I also used half and half instead of heavy cream still tasted great. Finally, I added a little cooking sherry to polish off the flavor - I guess that is a matter of personal preference.
I was floored that my kids actually liked it and asked for seconds. I, like many here had to make a second batch. Really a keeper....

This was the best clam chowder EVER!! My boyfriend adored it & my co-workers think I'm a rockstar!! It's ver easy to make. I made a double batch and used 2 containers of heavy cream & 2 containers of whipping cream. I also added fresh chopped garlic. Next time I'm going to roast the garlic then add it. This really is a superb recipe...you have to try it!!
