Made this last night and my husband, who loves tortilla soup and orders it at every restaurant that offers it, kept looking at me and saying, "Seriously? you made this from scratch? You're amazing!" He loved it and I did too. It was a bit spicy for us and I'm going to tone it down next time but it was really good - one of the best recipes on here.

This was great, tasty and filling. Used the left over chicken from last nights dinner. The lime in the soup was the best. Must not be omitted!

Extremely flavorful and delicious! I used a bit more chicken, as well as more lime and cilantro, and this was amazing. I think I will add some quartered new potatoes next time for a heartier soup since my guy doesn't care for black beans. Rather than make the seasoning mix listed in the recipe for the tortilla strips, I used Tony Chachere's Creole seasoning and a little thyme, and they were great. This meal was very simple to make - definitely a keeper!

This recipe is excellent- the only problem? I wanted to have more left over to throw in the fridge for next time! This soup is just spicy enough with a jalapeno, the homemade corn tortilla chips with Emeril's Essence are amazing. I'm thinking next time I might add some corn and black beans for a more robust soup, but this isnt necessary. I didnt even make the chipotle sour cream, and I just put regular sour cream on top. This was perfect for me since my tolerance for spice is minimal, and the sour cream helped cut it down. I absolutely recommend the avocado, and even a sharp cheddar cheese on top if it interests you.

I have made this several times and it has become one of my family's favorite dinners. I do add a bit more tomato paste.

Sooooooooo good! I've been using this recipe for years and it's always come out great! I like to add some corn and a little extra chicken stock, and use store bought tortillas. A great meal anytime of the year - and low fat :

Great tortilla soup recipe! The chipotle crema really adds to the dish. I recently started adding black beans which I really like, but it is still an excellent recipe as is.

Delicious! Had a get together and everyone loved the soup and wanted the recipe. I did not make the chipotle crema due to lack of time, just used sour cream. I made it a little in advance and let it sit on warm in the crock pot. The flavors were perfect.

This was a great recipe. I omitted the chicken, and made it vegetarian. I pureed everything with an immersion blender. Sub'd chicken stock with water, butter, and spices; sub'd sour cream with low-fat yogurt. Added black beans, corn, and green onions. Served with fish tacos. Great dinner; enough for 5. Got a lot of compliments.
