The reason i wouldn't rate it 5 star is that the coconut milk is too dominant in my opinion. I love coconut milk, but it was way too overpowering. I'm hoping some day to find a great recipe for Mulligatawny that is more traditional that doesn't use coconut milk at all. I like this recipe though, so maybe I'll modify it.
The soup was very hearty and tasty although it was much better after I bamm'd it with green Tabasco sauce (jalepeno pepper sauce.
One other thing - the recipe states prep time to be 15 minutes. Star Trek's "Data" could maybe do it in that amount of time, but it took both my wife and I about an hour to prep.

This is the most interesting dish to come out of my kitchen - my guests were quite uncertain when they saw the chopped apples go in the pot! I followed the recipe exactly and it was delicious.

All of us enjoyed this meal in a bowl! We had some french bread and next time might include a salad to lighten up the fare. The next time we agreed we would try a quarter tsp.less of the pepper. Followed all of it with no variations and wow... :

I didn't have the Garam Masala to season the chicken, so I used a big shake of cinammon, pinch of black pepper, tsp cumin and big shake of "Emerils original essence" (all purpose seasoning. I used 2 boneless Chicken Breasts instead of thighs. I didn't have a Yukon potato so I used twice the sweet potato... no green apples on hand so I used two red delicious and had black lentils instead of red in the pantry. I seasoned it with a sprinkle of chopped mint and sliced almonds instead of cilantro and cashews. I had the rest as listed and it was PHENOMENAL!

We had this soup at our friends house last night. Very tasty with a complex flavor and I could not quite guess all that was in it. I was worried when I tasted it my husband would not like it but he did! He even said something when we got home about how good it was.

This recipe is a little laborious if you don't have a vegetable chopper, but it is certainly worth the effort. My husband doesn't care for ethnic food, but he loves this soup. VERY GOOD, would recommend to anyone.
