Made this last night. Very tasty and fall off the bone tender. I was shopping for the meat in the afternoon, but could only find frozen veal shanks, so I settled for fresh beef shanks instead (and only $3.99 per pound. Will be keeping this one in the rotation! Not sure why the websit lists this as "intermediate" as it was very easy to make.

I loved this recipe! Pretty easy and the meat came out so tender... melting off the bone.

Very yummy. I would add more stock and wine next time as mine ended up with less liquid than I would have liked. I LOVE how cooking this dish makes my home feel so welcoming and cosy :

I made this for Christmas and it was wonderful. I was making it for 8 so I made a little more sauce and used 8 shanks. I used 28oz of beef stock, 2 cups of wine and 1 can of beef broth. I added 2 tbs of tomato paste when I was cooking the vegetables and I put in 3 chopped tomatoes when I added the stock. I did not use the orzo. I made mashed potatoes to serve with it. Everyone loved it and there was plenty of sauce.

I used guinness instead of wine and beef shanks which are quite cheap!

I made this recipe several years ago for my boyfriend and my mom. We all thought it was awesome! Don't know why I haven't made it since but I will be on New Year's Eve - same guy and another friend. My mouth's watering - can't wait!

I have made this several times and it is always a hit. Very easy and SUPER flavorful.
Please do not rate a recipe unless you actually make it. It is hardly fair to bring the recipe rating down because you are unable to find or can't afford to purchase the ingredients. Thank you.

i went to 5 different butchers and i couldn't find good veal shanks for under $40!!!!
far to expensive to spend on one meal, we simply cant afford that.
please post more affordable options for families, especially in this economy. thank you.
