I love this recipe. I live in Texas so I use a can of Rotel tomatoes (these come in Original, Mild, and Hot so you can pick the level of heat you want to use based on the heat that people you serve to want or can stand! No cutting up jalapenos! Also, I have been able to find the tortillas strips that come in a bag at Target and Kroger (you can find them with the croutons and the salad stuff. No frying !!! It makes this recipe even quicker and easier to prepare. I also cut up some avocados in small pieces and put them in the soup. I have used fresh and cilantro in a bottle and I think fresh is best. I buy a bunch of cilantro, wash it, and put it in a plastic bag in freezer. When I make soup, I take it out cut what I am using while frozen, and then put in soup. Much better flavor and you can keep it for a long time. Also, inexpensive.

Hands down, the best tortilla soup I have EVER had! My friends and family tell me they love it so much that I don't want to tell anyone where I got the recipe. I want them all to think I am amazing on my own! I could eat this soup every day!!!!!!

This is my new go-to recipe for tortilla soup. It's great. I did add a can of chopped tomatoes because I like more of a tomato taste, and also added some corn. The crema was good, but pretty spicy. Definitely make the tortilla strips from stale chips, I made one batch with fresh tortillas and boy did they soak up the oil! Made this for super bowl, and everyone ate it up.
Love it!!!

I made this yesterday and my entire family loved it. I added a few things...celery, carrots, and diced tomato. Even my 3 year old "made a happy bowl" I made a double recipe and it is gone. I will definitely make this again very soon. My Brother already wants more.

This is definitely going to become a regular dish! WOW! Our two closest stores are a Mexican market and an Asian market, so I'm always looking for ways to use the ingredients available to me. I easily found everything I needed. I cooked the chicken all day in a crockpot with some salsa and taco seasoning, and then the rest was a breeze. A little corn made it extra yummy.

I thought by the looks of it I would not be satisfied and would later decide to add some yellow squash, grilled corn, or carrots to bulk this up, but it was both satisfying and delicious. The toppings make this, and the crema added the most wonderful gentle smokey essence. I'm picky, yet this simple recipe will now be one of my new favorites.
