My 15 year old daughter and I made this chowder for the family but didn't add the carrots and used fat-free half and half. The fresh thyme really gave this a great flavor and we baked fresh bread bowls to serve it in. It was decided that this should be placed on the top of our family favorites and added to the menu monthly.

I have never made clam chowder before and this was a very easy recipe to follow. I used canned baby clams - about 50 ounces total. I also ended up chopping about twice the amount of veggies than it called for but it made for a heartier soup that everyone loved. We ate the chowder in bread bowls for Christmas Eve dinner. Delicious!!!

I have made a couple other clam chowders and they always fell flat. This one is the one I have been looking for! I realized one of the secrets is the fresh thyme. I love the thyme. Next time I will had a little extra! I used 2 cans of drained clams and added extra potatoes. This compares to one of my favorite restaurants clam chowder back in Utah...it is the thyme! I plan on freezing half and hopes it will freeze okay...anyone know?

I had never made clam chowder before. It's one of my favorite soups. I tried this recipe and it was excellent! I omitted the carrots. I had to use canned clams because I couldn't find any fresh. I used 5 10oz cans of baby clams. It was still fabulous! I think next time I'll add a little more flour to make it a little thicker.

This chowder was top notch with the perfect consistency...not to thick yet not watery. I was able to buy 11/2 lbs. of chopped clams (an assortment at the fish store which made prep easy but taste fresh! Added a touch of Sherry after veggies wilted and added the clams with the broth.(I have a fear of uncooked seafood! This is really a wonderfully easy yet gourmet quality chowder. Beautiful & Scrumptious!

This chowder is fantastic! I pretty much followed the recipe to the tee, except I used an entire 51 ounce (drained can of clams, 1/2 tsp dried thyme for the fresh, and all 12oz if center cut bacon, (yes Emeril, I get an F as I trimmed off some of the fat. Nevertheless, I oohhhhed and ahhhhhhed the whole meal....and so did everyone else!

I'm chowing down on this chowder as I'm writing.... It's so good! I did a couple of things differently.... I like a really hearty chowder so I added some more potatoes, leeks, and onion then it called for. I also LOVE garlic and was surprised that it didn't call for any. So I added a few cloves. I also didn't have the time to steam up fresh clams so I bought chopped canned clams. This recipe is such a winner!!!!! It's going in my arsenal of ROCK'N RECIPES!!!!!

this chowder is so good that I will make 1 1/2 times the recipe to feed my family of 5 .. but just remember if you are using dried thyme ONLY USE 1/2 TSP. And this is when I am making a 1/2 extra batch. that is the only reason I can think of the one review that was a negative one star ,the dried thyme is very strong...
