Very tasty. It was a little salty though. I only kept the batter in the fridge for 15 minutes so I imagine it could get better. I added shrimp to the fry and it was so good. I actually liked them better than the cod. All and all pretty good. Really blot the fish with paper towels after..it was a little greasy.

The fries were great but the breading on the fish was less crispy than I was hoping for.

Overall, very good, and I would probably make it again. I did feel that the batter could be even lighter, as I've eaten fish and chips with batter that was even better, but this is still a pretty good recipe. Everyone enjoyed it. The tartar sauce was excellent. The chips weren't anything special.

So good and so easy!!! My kids love it my wife loves it and she hates fish and it is so easy to cook for the kids. I also make about 10lbs of it and fry it up and but it in the freezer for later days. But don't use zip-lock bags use food saver bags for better taste. Thanks Emeril

My son and husband declared this was the best Fish and Chips ever and I have to agree. The fish was crunchy and not oily at all. It had to be the lightest batter I have ever made. I plan to serve it to my friend who shuns fried food sometime. It was that light! I used fresh ling and didn't have an amber beer, but did have a good german light ale. It had a slight sweet hint of the beer. The fries were great.

I made this the other night for my family and everyone loved it!! Very tasty and was super easy to make. I made sure to keep the batter in the refrigerator for about an hour so it had time to thicken up. Also, after frying the fish, I mixed some scallops using the same batter and I think I enjoyed those even more so than the fish! I highly recommend this recipe.

Honestly, this was better than any fish and chips I've had in a restaurant. The batter came out perfectly flaky and crispy and nicely seasoned and lightly beer-y. Was just the right thickness, not too heavy of a batter, pretty light. Homemade fries are of course always good, but after this meal I'll always eat them with "Essence" on them. Very tasty and easy to make.
