This did not work for me. It would not thicken. I followed the recipe exactly except the bag of cranberries was 12 oz instead of 8. Down the disposal and to the grocery store.

My family thought this recipe was the star of our Thanksgiving dinner. My oldest son said it's better than gravy. I can't imagine higher praise than that. With that said, I stayed true to the recipe. We're not big sugar eaters so maybe that's why we didn't need the extra sugar.

this recipe had mixed reviews but I decided to try it anyway. I love the flavor, it "pops" in your mouth. But, I do agree about 1/2 cup more of sugar. Since your not eating alot at a time the additional sugar should not make a difference calorie-wise. I will be making this again.... just with more sugar. TRy it.

This recipe has received a bad rap, but it is actually quite delicious! My only critique would be to take out the corn starch---it really isn't necessary and makes the sauce look pink. Sans cornstach and less sugar, it is a unique and tasty variation to compliment the turkey! Instead of orange juice, I used the juice of half an orange, and I also put cinnamon and ginger in it. Personally, I loved the vanilla added as well. Try it!

I was skeptical about the amount of cornstarch in the recipe and it did make the compote very thick in an unatural kind of way. Also, the vanilla flavor really stood out and overpowered the citrus in the recipe. I think that overall this recipe made a compote that tasted processed even though I made it from scratch. Definately not the fresh compote taste I was shooting for.

Ugh. The vanilla flavor just did not belong there.

I made this dish for my annual Thanksgiving dinner with friends and family, here in the Netherlands. It was a nice recipe, and every seemed to like it. It went well with the turkey. The only changes I made were of personal preferrence. It was a bit tart for our taste, so I upped the sugar amount. I also think next time I would not add as much water, making the compote a bit on the thicker side. I would recommend this recipe to all.

I used a lot less of the orange zest than called for, and I still found the orange to be overpowering. I may make this again & leave out the orange zest, perhaps adding a little more lemon zest.

Made this for Thanksgiving. Very easy to make. A nice substitute for the canned cranberries. Tasted good with the turkey leftovers as well. Will perhaps make again.

I made this dish just a few minutes before leaving for our family dinner. Loved the fact that it went together so quickly. It was a little more tart than I expected it to be. My daughter-in-law brought cranberry bread and we discovered that the compote was a wonderful topping for the bread. Also, the next day it seemed less tart. Made a dish of leftover heated turkey and cranberry compote. Yum! Will definitely make this receipe again. (I did leave the orange and lemon zest, however.
