These came out great! I used candy corn & licorice to make pumpkin faces. The color (clear orange & texture was excellent and the kids loved them. I wonder if the person who had the mixture turn dark brown used high enough heat to bring it up to 305 degrees. I do agree that it can be a mess to clean, but I just scraped out as much as I could when it was hot and soaked the pan overnight and it was fine.

The mixture turned dark brown, almost black before it reached 305 degrees, so I didn't use gummy worms. I poured the syrup on the silmat and put Halloween sprinkles on them. Word of caution, if you do this, do NOT use your finger to push them in to the syrup! You WILL get a nasty burn!! Also, used about a tablespoon of lemon extract to get the lemon flavor. Had to boil the pot I used in another pot to get the hardened candy off the inside and outside. Really not worth the time and trouble.
