I have made this recipe for the last few years and like it, but it took me awhile to tweak the recipe. You have to cut the liquid in half or double the nuts, pretzels, and cereal. I usually cut the liquid in half and it tastes really good. I also add shredded wheat as well. This is a really good mix once you adjust it to your liking.

There is way too much butter in this recipe. I followed it exactly. When the mix would not "dry out" in the oven, I spread it even thinner on the cookie sheet--still did not work. It tasted terrible. Now besides having to finish icing the cake for the party I have to make more trail mix!

I guess this must be a love or hate recipe. My family and I happen to love it! The recipe on the back of the Chex box is too bland and lacking in flavor, where Emeril's is exploding with spicey flavor. You may be able to get away with using 1 stick of butter instead of 2, but I say just go for it all.

I wish that I had taken the time to read the other review of this recipe before wasting two sticks of butter and all of those nuts on the most disgusting thing to come out of my oven. I trusted that Emeril would have a great recipe. BOY, was I disappointed.

Made in 10 min. with my 4 yr. old! Lots of fun. Great spicy flavor. I added M&M's to round out the salty/sweet balance.

The recipe for Homemade Party Mix is horrible. There is way too much butter, creole spice and peanuts for the amount of cereal and pretzles.
I followed the directions to a T and both batches were greasy and way too spicy.
I followed the directions on the back of the Chex cereal box and those batches turned out perfectly.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THIS RECIPE!!
