I used about 1 plus cups of sliced fresh ginger, cooked it in the syrup for over an hour then used the immersion blender till it was finely pureed and continued to cook for another hour or so to extract most of the ginger flavor. I strained it in a fine mesh strainer. It turned out to be one of the most delicious drinks with a slice of clementine orange. Will make again.

This sure sounded good, but the Ginger Ale was so sweet it was not drinkable! Used almost twice as much ginger as called for and only had a hint of flavor. If your expecting Vernors..best go buy it.

I was really eager to try this recipe, as I like ginger ale and bourbon but had never tried them together. Putting together the simple syrup with ginger was exceptionally easy and it does make a light refreshing drink, but don't expect the robust flavor or bite of store-bought ginger ale. Using a bit more ginger than was even recommended for the recipe still gives the drink only the essence of ginger. However, it's a refreshing alternative with or without the alcohol.
