We went on a riverboat cruise in New Orleans in 2005. We had assigned tables at dinner and we have been friends with our fellow diners ever since. We get together several times a year and our list visit was at our house and there had to be hurricanes! Everyone loved this recipe and it brought back fond memories of Pat O'Brien's! We, too, felt it was sweet enough and omitted the sugar. Other than that we followed the recipe to a T using sour mix option rather than fresh limes because I knew we would be making several batches and didn't want to spend all of that time squeezing!

DELICIOUS! We drank these on the beach, and they were not too sweet, actually quite refreshing. This will be my go-to summer drink when we have people visiting and want a special treat to sip on at the beach. Cheers!

Wonderful drink for a hot day or evening! I have requests for this drink from friends and family alot during the summer. I do add a few more ounces of orange juice and less of granadine. Also leave out the sugar as I use Rose's lime juice instead of fresh since limes are so expensive in the midwest. Make a pitcherful and enjoy.

The grenadine and OJ make the drink sweet enough. Leave off the extra sugar for a perfect drink!

I followed the recipe as written, and it was extremely sweet. Most people did not want refills due to the sweetness.

AS A BARTENDER OF 7 YEARS AND A GIRL FROM THE SOUTH I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN SKEPTICAL ABOUT TRYING HURRICANE RECIPES FEARING IT WOULD BE ALL JUICE AND WAY TOO SWEET. THIS ONE SEEMS TO HOLD TRUE TO THE ORIGINAL RECIPE SO I DECIDED TO GIVE IT A WHIRL FOR A FAMILY FUNCTION. EVERYONE LOVED THEM AND HAD A BLAST. IT'S BEEN ALL THE RAVE AT GET TOGETHERS AFTER THAT SO GUESS I FOUND A KEEPER.

This is a fantastic recipe! I made it for a large group gathering and everyone loved it...though I served them in cups that were a bit too large...and well, some folks couldn't move their legs for a while! It really does taste like fruit punch so you don't taste the alcohol...the effects of which are guaranteed to sneak up on you.

This recipe is a snap to prepare and very tasty. It can easily be made in a non-alcoholic version. I use Hawaii's Own Passion Fruit Orange frozen concentrate, and both grenadine (or pomegranate syrup and lime juice. I've used Cruzan dark rum, and a mix of Myer's Dark and Captain Morgan Passion Fruit rum, and highly recommend the latter. The drink is strong, but tasty!

We used Passion Fruit flavored Rum instead of any syrup, added lime juice and a little maraschino cherry juice to the basic recipe. Went down e-a-s-y, just like those in the French Quarter.
