Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon grated lemon rind
  • 2 tablespoons gin
  • 2 tablespoons light rum
  • 2 tablespoons white tequila
  • 2 tablespoons vodka
  • 2 tablespoons Triple Sec
  • 1/2 cup cola beverage
  • 2 lemon or orange slices, for garnish

Directions

In a small saucepan combine the sugar, water, and lemon rind. Bring mixture to a boil and cook, stirring, for 1 minute, or until the sugar is dissolved. Remove from the heat and cool. Strain and discard lemon zest.

Combine gin, rum, tequila, vodka, triple sec, and the cooled lemon simple syrup in a cocktail shaker filled halfway with ice cubes. Shake well. Strain into 2 ice-filled Collins glasses and top with the cola. Gently stir to combine. Garnish with fruit slices and serve immediately.

Adding the lemon zest to the simple syrup was a great idea. I will use that in the future. However, the amount of simple syrup called for was too much for me. The first sip of the drink was wonderful. But then the sweetness became overpowering. So, next time I will add the cola first, and then add the simple syrup to taste.
