Try this: melt 12oz semisweet chocolate with 1 tsp veg oil in a double boiler. Melt over LOW heat and stir continually. Pay attention & be patient! When melted, spread thinly over parchment paper. Refrigerate an hour. Do the same with 12oz white chocolate. If you are adding candy cane powder, know that the the extra sugar will harden the chocolate quickly so melt the chocolate first, then add JUST before you are ready to spread it and spread quickly. [Take the dark chocolate out at the last minute]. If you add liquors or mint extract, add a little extra oil at the beginning when you are melting, and any alcohol or candy additions only seconds before you are ready to pour. If your top layer of chocolate is just slightly thick, that's ok, just get it out there and start spreading. After spreading, add the big chunks of peppermint while still hot and press in. Voila. Best holiday treat you will ever have. Easy!

This has become a Christmas tradition in my family. I made it and they eat it!! HAHA. This year I'm sending some to my brother who is deployed to Italy and others in my family. I typically melt Semi-sweet chocolate and reharden then add the white chocolate layer on top.

I added a bit of peppermint extract only because I love peppermint. Great recipe!

Yummy and easy. I simplified by throwing in the peppermint candy all at once (as opposed to straining it and then drizzled some semi-sweet chocolate on top after the bark had set. Perfect for the holidays because it's no bake, no mess, no fuss!!

I have made this several times exactly as the recipe says, and it has been a huge hit every time! It is so easy, anyone can do it. I have found that the chocolate is really sweet enough, so I use sugar-free candy canes and break them up, and it comes out perfect. If you use sweet chocolate and sugary candy canes, it might come out to sweet for your liking.
    Super easy and fast!

i thought that melting chocolate was easy but it turns out that you can burn it very easily and that after a good batch the recipe was still awful

This is so easy and very tasty. Definitely good for the holidays.. or even Valentines Day! I couldn't find the hard candy, so I bought small candy canes. My daughter enjoyed crushing them up. :-

I decided to try to make these after seeing a 1-pound box of peppermint bark priced around $12 in the gourmet food section of a department store, along with all the other stuff that comes out during the holidays.

We made 3 batches for my kids to give to their teachers. After breaking up the bark, we put it into those clear plastic gift bags with the twisty-ties (I found ones decorated with Santa and snowman at Target. Another alternative would be to put them in a wax-paper-lined tin or festive box.

I added peppermint extract to the melting white chocolate to make it extra minty.

    Yummy, easy, and very holiday-ish!
