Made this last night, thought it was great. I used instant mashed potatoes instead of regular ones and bbq sauce instead of the tomatoe and other sauces. Only problem with it: ended up needing a lot more containers than I planned on. Added garlic to the egg wash on top.

YUMMY! The whole family loved this one, probably because we made each one custom to each member's liking. Will definitely make again and also plan to make some miniature ones in the future for party food. You know it's a keeper when you can't wait to eat your leftovers!

Wow! I am an admittedly horrible cook--I broil fine--but even I made a delicious meal here. Moreover, I was confused w/the folding of the dough, but even if it wasn't as neat a packet as possible, it was still amazing. Don't let that put you off. Everyone at my house and even my mother-in-law loved it. It is not a light dish. You don't need a lot to be satisfied. This is an unusually special dish.

Since the reviews were overwhelmingly good, I decided to make this. I agree with the one reviewer who said it was just okay. It is very labor intensive, albeit easy, for the final product. For full disclosure I did substitute cheddar cheese for the smoked gouda because I tasted the smoked gouda while chopping it and I just wasn't in the mood for that smoky of a flavor. Maybe that was the secret ingredient that would have put it over the top. Otherwise, this was just bland. I think the filling could be doctored up to improve this-maybe adding cream cheese and more seasoning-although then it really wouldn't be wellington :

This was an easy recipe but a lot of work. For the amount of work, the taste was just o.k. No WOW factor in the taste.
I probably would not make this again.

easy,fast,outragous..fancy shepards pie. I'm realllly picky, will make once a week for teen boys. I just made one big pie, rolled thin and prepared as advised. Added fresh parm on top of cheese topper w/ parsly and cracked pepper.Upped garlic and 2 shallots w/ reg onions as said.A dash of vinager for a kick.Once ready, cooked longer, about another 10 min.only because it was not puffed fully, 10 more min. did it. wow, thx so much. Top with sour cream and pepper flakes and your home free! If had, I would have added roasted corn and peas.

My husband and I really enjoyed this. The smoked Gouda added a lot of great flavor without overpowering the rest of the dish. I look forward to making this again someday.
