    Loved this recipe! My kids ask for it all the time. I was raised on Cuban food and this reminded me so much of my Grandma's cooking.

    I know I'm a couple of years too late to comment, but mashed plantains with chicharrones absolutely IS a Cuban food. It's called fufú de plátano.

    To the lady from Philadelphia, you are right - This is Dominican "Mangu", Puerto Rican " Mofongo but also Cuban, "Matajivaro" small variations of the same thing. This is quite common with Caribbean food.

    I loved the whole recipe, kids didnt like the plantains. I jazzed the sauce up a bit with a package of sliced mushrooms (ports and shitalke it was wonderful.

    Masch plantain are not Cuban. Mofongo is a Puertorrican food and is fried plantains and then smach.
    Smach boil plantains are from the Dominican Republic and is call: Mangu.
    Do you want me to show how to make Mofongo??????
